Subject Highlights:
Each week will focus on a department within the school and share their nominations with you. This week our DT, Food and Engineering team will be sharing their nominations with you.
Year 10 GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition students have made an excellent start to their Mock NEA coursework. They will be investigating the ingredients used to make shortbread and hoping to produce the perfect shortbread!
Year 9 have made honeycomb this week which has been exciting. Well done to Harry, Lucas and Alan who have got the MasterChef certificates for best results in cooking lessons.
Year 8 have made cheese straws - adapting the flavours with a choice of cayenne, mustard, and caraway. There were some excellent pastry ‘chefs’ – in 8ST Maciej, Ruslan, and Ashton were particularly successful. Ashton was also incredibly organised with his working practice and clearing away afterwards. Mrs Jones has given MasterChef certificates to Ruby and Mia as they have been outstanding in the lesson.
Year 7 have made flapjacks and were learning about the Science involved in this. Well done to 7TA for excellent results. There have been some lesson stars for Amelia, Karis and Adyan.
Year 9 engineers are making an Automata Toy. In general, 9TU have been working very hard. Filip, Danil, Isabelle have impressed Mrs Firmin with their effort and attitude producing some very accurate finger joints. Mrs Jones has been very impressed with 9CA and 9TA who have made a consistent effort and have produced some wonderful work.
Year 7 Engineers are working on their Acrylic Holder project and 7CO have completed a mini practice project making key rings with acrylic. Lily A, Adrian and Adrija have all filed and polished their acrylic to a very high standard. The whole class have worked really well and we are looking forward to completing the acrylic holder next term. 7TE have worked hard for Mr Harley and Mrs Jones has given a special mention to Jakub who has consistently produced amazing work.
Year 8 Engineers are making coat hooks. They are using upcycled pallet wood and have been working hard to file and sand it ready to work with. 8CO have produced some fantastic design ideas using CAD which will be transferred to their wood with the laser cutter. They will then make the coat hooks from aluminum. Mrs Firmin is loving the creative ideas many of 8CO have come up with. Mrs Jones has been very impressed with all of 8CA and Max in particular has produced fantastic results and shown amazing skill in the workshop.
Year 10 Engineering have been making an C-clamp this term made from aluminum and mild steel which has developed their workshop skills alongside the research and CAD drawing. Alex McG, Will D and Radu have worked well and produced produce to a high quality.
Year 11 Engineering have now completed their NEA and are working hard preparing for their exam in June. Lucy D, Patrikas K and Gretil B have worked very well this year.
Year 11 DT completed their design and they are currently revising hard for their exam in June. Liam M, Ruby J & Urszula M have worked hard this year and are looking forward to their exams.
Drayton Manor Trips:
Students have been visiting Drayton Manor in their year groups as a rewards trip. Students had an amazing time during their visits, experiencing the various rides and visiting the zoo where they all loved the meerkats!
The students were fantastic ambassadors for the school and we hope they enjoyed the day as much as staff did.
