Principal's Message
Greeting families,
The first day of school is fast approaching, and as a parent, I understand how our emotions change from one minute to the other. During the meet the teacher night, I shared how this separation process impacts all of us.
My wife and I adopted a family tradition at home that had helped us cope during this transition—on Wednesday night, the night before school started for my children. We all read the book First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg. The book is about a girl who does not want to go to school on the first day, and it has a pretty interesting twist at the end. This read-aloud is followed by drinking the "Jitter Juice," which is in charge of giving us the strength to face the unknown. As you can imagine, this little symbolic act has changed how we all face the first-day challenge. My oldest, who is now 13 y.o, helps now reinforce the power of the juice by sharing his own stories about his previous first days of school and how he coped with it.
I wanted to share this story with you as a tool you may use with your children if you choose to. The essential message of this story is that even we as adults need tools to cope with transitions, so it is necessary to acknowledge our children's feelings and give them tools that could help them in situations like this.
As you may imagine, my family is preparing the Jitter Juice for Sunday night.
Please, if you have any traditions, share them with us in the feedback form so we can grow together as a community.
Let me know if you have any questions.
If you have questions or comments, please do not hesitate and ask. I will send another email during the week if I get updates.
Thanks for choosing us!
Kind Regards,
Roberto Gonzalez
