April Newsletter 2024
Dear GUMC Families,
It looks like the groundhog was right, and that spring has arrived early this year! It's easy to get excited for longer days, warmer temperatures and God's beautiful new life around us!
April will be a busy month that also brings us many wonderful learning activities at GUMC Preschool. The Pre-K classes will kick-off return from spring break with their Father's Day Fun playdates with dads on the GUMC playground, and the 3-year olds will enjoy a visit from one of our favorite musicians, Mr. Jon & Friends. All classes will enjoy exploring God's creation through nature, while investigating some of the smallest of HIs creatures - bugs and insects! The Pre-K classes will take a bus to Piney Run Nature Center in Eldersburg to experience this first-hand on April 17th. Finally, our parent-teacher conferences will be held on April 22nd and 23rd. Fun and blessings abound here at GUMC!
Happy Spring to all of our Families!
Miss Kim

From 9:30am until 10:30am, Dads (or another adult caregiver) are invited to join their child for a play date on the GUMC Playground, sing a song or two, and enjoy some cookies together.
If Dad is unable to attend, grandpa or uncle or mom or grandma, can come and play instead! We only ask that there be one adult pal per GUMC student in attendance, and that siblings (unless they are infants in carriers or strollers) remain at home, in order to make this a special one-on-one time.
At 10:30am, Playdate pals are able to leave and children will go back into their classrooms to finish out their school day.

Why raising a polite kid still matters
“Socialization is like learning to read and write,” explains Dr. Andrea Hussong, a professor in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at UNC. “Politeness is like learning your letters.”
Good manners help immeasurably. Teaching children politeness not only makes socialization easier, it prepares kids for jobs, friendships, and relationships. It also, research suggests, may help with their mental health.
