MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Good evening families,
I have a couple of things to share this week. First, the engaged learning taking place at Elkins Pointe is incredible! I am so proud of our students and teachers. We had Ms. Sara Gillespie, our newly elected Fulton County Schools Board Representative for District 1, visit on Friday. I walked around the school with our new board member and Ms. Angela Parham, Zone 5 Superintendent, showing off all our amazing students, teachers/staff, and beautiful school. Sharing our excitement about the new 6th Grade Academy, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and Humanities Halls was truly fulfilling. The classrooms and corridors were brimming with positive energy. I felt a sense of Titan pride that filled me to my core.
Later that evening, my kids piled on the couch to watch Milton High School play on ESPN. One of the reasons we watched the game is because their father is a Milton football coach. As we routed for the Eagles, my kids would scream, "There's Dad!" whenever they saw him on the screen. Milton won the game, and my children beamed with pride. At that moment, I saw and was reminded that our kids are proud of their parents.
As we navigate this world trying to raise our children, try to remember we aren't perfect, AND that is okay. We will have moments when we are embarrassed by our children's behavior. Because parents, you and I understand what it's like to have a middle schooler, we occasionally embarrass them as well. Our children fill our hearts with pride and joy, bringing smiles to our faces. Likewise, they admire us, finding happiness in knowing that we are their parents. So, while in the middle of the trials of parenting, although your child may not express it (itβs just part of the growing process), they are equally proud of you.
After a long week, when the whole family is worn out and perhaps a bit grouchy, rest assured that we are in it together. So, take the time to pile on the couch on a Friday night and enjoy these moments in real-time. This is a little reminder to cherish your children's pride in you. Your children may never tell you, but they tell us all the time!
I am proud to serve this community.
Thank you for letting me be your principal.
AJ Smith
Principal of Elkins Pointe Middle School

CELEBRATIONS
INSTRUMENTS FOR SUCCESS!
The EPMS Band testing night was a great success. Our sixth grade students had the opportunity to try out several band instruments to see what was the best fit for them based upon several scientific and physical factors. Our instructors were professional musicians from the Atlanta area who were hand picked for their expertise on their instrument. This allowed the students and the band directors to receive high quality instruction and feedback. Ms. Dickerson and I have spoken to the students at length about our musical journeys and the students have taken the first step into a wonderful world of music on their instrument. We want to thank the Milton High School band students and Elkins Alumni who volunteered their time as student mentors to assist the instructors. Thanks to Chris Shumick, Milton Band Director, for partnering with us and publicizing this event with his students.
THE 6TH GRADE "JUMP START BAND CLINIC" - 9/7
The band program will be hosting a jump start clinic on September 7th from 9:00am β Noon at Elkins Pointe in the C Hall. Students will receive a three hour instructional session with professional musicians on their instrument. It is the first day that students receive their instrument, learn how to assemble it safely and correctly, produce a proper sound, and start to play their first few notes. It is a highly valuable experience that will save approximately two weeks of in class instruction
