Dear MHS Families,

Congratulations to our Girl's Volleyball team who became IHSA Regional Champions on Thursday night, and Adamaris Salgado, Evelyn Sanchez, Vanessa Marcos, and Mimi Puerzer who were all accepted to the prestigious Penwasciz Health Careers Program at Advocate Condell Medical Center. We are all so proud of your acheivements!
Just a reminder, due to a number of factors, we not be hosting a Veterans Day celebration on campus this year. We will still honor our Veterans, as we do every year, by displaying 123 flags around the campus. Staff and student volunteers will install the flags on Monday, November 4th and they will remain up through Veterans Day.
Last but not least, Tuesday, November 5th is Election Day. Classes will not be in session. We encourage eveyone to go out and vote.

HallowSTEAM Fun
It was a night of not-so-spooky and educational Halloween activities Tuesday night as MHS hosted its annual HallowSTEAM event.
Thanks to our students and science staff for hosting the event and to everyone who attended.
Staff Halloween Contest
Staff and students had fun voting on staff halloween costumes and creativity yesterday. Of the 498 votes received, 107 went to Bob Ross and the Happy Little Trees and Happy Little Clouds, for the win! Honorable mention went to Mazapan!
Fine Arts - Raku
Students from 3D Art hosted a Raku day while hosting Art students from Carl Sandburg Middle School. Student creations were glazed, then fired in our Raku Kiln. After firing, they were placed in one of 4 metal cans filled with leaves, hay, grass, and paper to create beautiful pottery pieces!
A big thank you to Mr. Harjung on getting our team set up with the necessary equipment to make the day happen and to Mr. Schrenk for leading the day with our students!

November 1st - Día de los Muertos
This week is Día de los Muertos, a holiday which honors family and friends who have passed away. During the holiday, celebrated primarily from Nov. 1st - Nov. 2nd in Mexico and other Latin American countries, families gather together to welcome back the spirits of departed loved ones by making ofrendas, or altars, in their homes decorated with photos, food, and flowers (typically marigolds, or “cempasúchiles”).
To honor this holiday, Puertas Club has set up a school-wide ofrenda on the windows of the cafeteria. Part of the ofrendafeatures printed digital ofrenda slides created by Puertas students and staff. You can see some of them by clicking on this slideshow. If you would like to create a digital ofrenda slide to honor a loved one who has passed away, this slide also includes a template.

Navig8 Lake County
On Wednesday, October 30th, a group of ambitious students attended the first-ever Navig8 Lake, a county-wide interactive career exploration event that gave over 4,000 students from 8th grade to high school the chance to network with 90 local industry partners in various career pathways.
Some of the hands-on experiences included welding, bricklaying, conduit bending, and piloting a robot puppy! Students were given approximately one hour to tour the event and learn about various career options.
The Navig8 Lake event was hosted by the Regional Office of Education in collaboration with Lake County Partners and Lake County school districts.

The Wellness Center has partnered with Omni’s “PreVenture” program
PreVenture is a mental health program that screens students for personality related risk factors that may indicate increased risk for future participation in high-risk behaviors, including using drugs and alcohol. This does not evaluate for current high-risk behaviors, rather this is a preventative program to support the development of coping skills and self regulation strategies.
Omni utilizes the Substance Use Risk Profile Scale (SURPS) to screen students for eligibility. To learn more about PreVenture, click below.

Reminders
Attendance
Regular school attendance is required and necessary to develop the academic and intrapersonal skills needed for success. Students are expected to attend each class and be on time. Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. If your student is going to be absent, leave early or arrive late, please submit the attendance via the monitor application within Power School in lieu of calling the attendance line and leaving a voicemail.
Please log on to the Power School parent portal at the MHS website https://www.d120.org/ to record your student’s attendance.
Attached you will find instructions on how to submit your students attendance.

Guardians will be receiving an email with your parent Power School log in instructions if needed.
If you need further support please call 847-949-2200.
Bus Notifications
Would you like to know when your student’s bus is going to be late? For Mundelein bus routes, Lakeside Transportation is using the Bus Bulletin notification system to notify parents and students when there are bus delays and schedule changes.
For more information, or to sign-up and start receiving notifications, please visit Bus Bulletin (Find Mundelein Area Schools when prompted for a district) *Note - This is managed by Lakeside Bus Company and not MHS.
Dress Code
Although we take great pride in a dress code that encourages self-expression, we do want to remind students of our student dress code policy as found in our student handbook.
Clothing must cover all undergarments (waistbands and straps excluded).
Fabric covering all private parts must not be seen through.
Clothing that depicts, advertises or advocates the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana or other controlled substances is prohibited.

Lockers
With the increased enrollment in recent years, we have been unable to provide a locker for every student at MHS. Since many students do not use a locker, we are assigning lockers to students upon request. Click below to request your locker!
