WFBMS FAMILY NEWS
November 18, 2024
Greetings Middle School Families,
Last week, the sixth grade band put on a wonderful performance that was focused on building one’s confidence to perform in public and meet ever increasing goals. It was so heartening to see middle school learners, at an age where they are very self-conscious, volunteer to stand up in a room full of people, and perform a solo on an instrument many have been playing for a very short time. As I sat and watched learner after learner take a moment to be vulnerable and perform, many of whom had to take a second or third attempt at completing their piece, I was reminded of the many opportunities our learners have to take risks, persevere, and monitor their progress. At the middle school, we make a point of encouraging learners to get involved in at least one activity for this exact reason. While they may not work on math or literacy skills in a club, musical organization, or sport, many of the lessons they learn lead to academic success, as learners gain resiliency and learn how to take responsible chances. I am so excited for our choir and band concerts this week followed by our orchestra performance on the 25th. I hope to see you there as our learners showcase their wide range of talents, musical and otherwise.
Best.
Geoff Pontus
