Counselor Corner
Hello Concord Families,
Rachel and I are excited to wrap up our final bullying lessons with our 4th and 5th grade students this week. We've spent time teaching them how to recognize, report, and refuse bullying behaviors. One of the key concepts we've focused on with our older students is understanding the difference between rude, mean, and bullying behavior.
We’ve also introduced the 30-Second Rule to help students make better decisions when it comes to commenting on others. The rule encourages children to think before they speak. If someone’s appearance, actions, or behaviors are something they could change in 30 seconds (like an untied shoe or spinach in their teeth), it's okay to comment. But if it’s something they cannot change quickly, such as their hair, clothing, learning style, or the way they speak or read, it's best to keep those thoughts to themselves.
This simple rule is a great way for students to practice empathy and kindness in their daily interactions. It also helps them consider the impact of their words before they speak.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out. We're here to support both students and families!
~Mrs. Hermann and Mrs. Niebur
