Young Writers Conference
The Young Writer's Conference for students in grades 1 - 6 is an ideal way to improve student writing and achievement. Students who participated in the daylong activity had the opportunity to interact with professional authors as well as student authors from around the Olympic ESD region.
The conference is designed to inspire young writers, and our students returned from the conference with numerous ideas to strengthen their own creative talents and to share with classmates.

Smokey Bear & Woodsy Owl Youth Poster Contest
Students in grades 1-5 created posters that featured the icons Smokey the Bear and Woodsy Owl. Students created positive messages about fire prevention or environmental conservation.
Please join us in congratulating our student poster winners, and thanks to the Port Angeles Garden Club for promoting this great opportunity for our students!
During this visit, the Port Angeles Garden Club presented a check to Franklin Elementary for $500 to help with their school garden! The PA Garden Club also awarded Jefferson and Dry Creek Elementary with $500 to support their gardens!
Wild Grief
Wild Grief has witnessed countless transformations as people engage with their grief in a natural setting alongside others on similar journeys. Simply walking together, being under the trees, and doing reflective activities leads to release, relief, and rootedness.
By offering free outdoor experiences for teens, young adults, families, and all-ages groups, Wild Grief helps more people find a place where they can remember, process, and discover a path to healing.

Seattle Opera School Tour - Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World
This opera tells the story of Mariana, a young girl living in Mexico City who has her portrait painted by Frida Kahlo. At first, Mariana is nervous about meeting Frida because of strange rumors about the eccentric artist. But Mariana quickly befriends Frida and learns two
important lessons in the process: that art can happen anywhere and how important it is to be brave even when you feel scared.
Students were enthralled and entertained from start to finish! Thank you to the Port Angeles Education Foundation for making these performances happen!
