A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,
Week 3 is done, which means progress reports come out this week! Remember, if you are struggling, you need to make time to attend tutorials. All teacher contact information and tutorial times are listed on their Canvas pages, so there is no excuse not to know. The six weeks closes on October 1st, procrastination could risk losing your eligibility, and you are the only one responsible for that.
OPEN HOUSE WILL BE RESCHEDULED...STAY TUNED!
- Parents please print or screen shot your student's schedule, as you will be reporting to each classroom on their schedule for a short overview of the syllabus, course/teacher expectations, and contact info.
- All GRHS staff will be in the hallways and have on maroon "The Maroon Track" shirts, so if you need assistance on where to go we are here to point you in the right direction, all you have to do is ask!
- Enter through the front doors...you can't miss it, Big George and many of our our GRHS Seniors will be welcoming you to the Ranch!
- This classroom rotation will move very quickly (about 10 min per class), so if you need to meet with a teacher for a conference regarding your student, I ask that you email them to set up a time at a later date. This cannot happen during Open House, as this pulls them away from meeting and greeting all the other parents which is the sole purpose of this event.
- Our PTO (table by library) and the ABC (spirit wear trailer out front) will be set up for your to shop that night too.
Lifetouch Photography will be on campus to take individual pictures of our Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors during all English classes from 8:15 am to 3:40 pm on Wednesday, September 15th in the Aux Gym. These will be in the yearbook! You must be in dress code.
We are BEING BOLD AND GOING GOLD on Friday to help raise awareness for Childhood Cancer Research. Wear gold and bring $1 to buy a GOLD ribbon during advisory to add to our GOLD OUT mural and help us make a LONGHORN NATION size donation to MOJO's Miracle Foundation in honor of Morgan Jones, who would have been a Senior this year. MoJo’s Miracle was formed by the family and friends of Morgan as a way to hold MoJo close to their hearts and promote #positivemojo to help her memory live on. The organization’s focus is to raise awareness for childhood cancer, promote cancer research, and to provide aid to families affected by cancer. It is the hope of MoJo’s Miracle to continue Morgan’s inspiration through her legacy.
Read more about their POSITIVE work by clicking this link: https://www.mojosmiracle.com/
The front office is open Monday- Friday 8:00-4:00pm to assist you. You can also directly email us or call 832-223-4200 during the same hours. We are happy to help!

COVID Notification Emails:
GRHS will continue to follow LCISD COVID Protocols by pushing out the email notifications that you are currently receiving when a positive and/or close contact case is reported by a parent. Please understand that we cannot reveal a student's identity, nor specific class, due to confidentiality. We are not contract tracing this year, so there is no mandatory quarantining on the school side. I will say, that many of these cases we are reporting are from parents doing their due diligence of reporting when their student was exposed or tested positive outside of the school. Many of these students did not even report back to campus. We appreciate these parents helping us stay as safe as possible at school.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month! The ENTIRE Maroon track is going GOING GOLD on FRIDAY, September 17th! Please join us by BEING BOLD and GOING GOLD! We are collecting donations for MOJO'S MIRACLE through another advisory competition on FRIDAY! GOLDEST advisory with largest $ donation will be getting GOLD OUT CUPCAKES FOR THEIR ENTIRE CLASS! Every dollar counts in helping this foundation bring awareness, aid families in their battle, and helps them continue the inspiration and "pay it forward" legacy of Morgan Jones, who would have been a Senior this year. Thanks for your generosity in helping us help them keep spreading the #positivemojo to all the families that are fiercely fighting the battle of childhood cancer. We LOVE kids...so GO BIG Longhorn Nation, we are ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

GRHS DRESS CODE - REVIEW IT - KNOW IT - BE IN IT!
Longer shorts, longer shirts, and pants pulled up!
Dress code, ID's, Bus Passes, and Parking Updates!
- REAL TALK W/DRESS CODE: Ladies, you need some longer shorts 3-4 inches below the inseam. We are no longer allowing you to wear a jacket/sweater to cover up a crop top-because it is NOT staying zipped/buttoned. If you have a jacket/sweater on, (and a tank that shows your midriff) it MUST be zipped ALL day long or you will get a dress code violation and be sent to your AP. Gentlemen, pull up those pants, we should not be seeing those undies/shorts. House shoes are not deemed acceptable forms of "slides". Let's get tight IN SCHOOL Longhorns and save those clothing items for after school and weekend fun! Appreciate you!
- LANYARDS W/GRHS ISSUED ID - We will continue to pass out (ID's, Lanyard, and plastic protector) this week during lunches. By this FRIDAY ALL STUDENTS WILL HAVE A GRHS ID AND WILL BE EXPECTED TO WEAR IT DAILY. GRHS ID's must be VISIBLY WORN on the TOP half of your body. If you refuse, you will have disciplinary consequences. Being responsible for 2633 students is a big job, and I need for all GRHS staff to be able to identify and assist students quickly. Thanks for following this rule.
- BUS PASSES - transportation said they are coming. If you happen to still have yours from last year, that will still work - AS LONG AS YOU DID NOT PUNCH A HOLE IN IT. I have requested replacements to be printed for our bus riders at the district level. Until then, they will still allow you to ride on your designated bus. Thanks for your patience.
PARKING LOT UPDATES:
In the AM- please pull up as far as you can and drop your student off. There a quite a few drop offs in the morning, and parents are staying parked until the front doors open. Unfortunately, this is backing traffic up on 762 since the drop off lane is not moving. Your student can safely wait under the covered awning once they get out of your car until the front doors open at 7:30am. If you are wanting to park and wait with them, please use the VISITOR PARKING SPOTS. Please drive slowly and yield to pedestrians moving across the front crosswalk. Thanks for your help!
EVENTUALLY EVERY GRHS student that rides the bus must have a SMART TAG! If you NO LONGER HAVE YOUR SMART TAG FROM LAST YEAR, transportation is working on getting you a new one! If you were AT GRHS last year, and still have your tag, that one still works. If your student is NEW to LCISD we will have yours on-site, as well!
This graphic is a little hard to read, so I have attached the link to a printable PDF below!

We are proud of these players and grateful for all of the support that came out tonight! We loved celebrating our seniors!

FOOTBALL GAME!
The Longhorn football Freshman black team dropped a heartbreaker to the Dawson Eagles 25-26. The Longhorns led most of the game but Dawson pulled ahead in the 4th quarter and the Longhorns just weren't able to rally at the end. Brandon Everett had over 100 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. Rushing touchdowns were also scored by Joaquin Barlow and Kevant Jackson. Quarterback Melvin Youngblood connected on several crucial passes to Aidan Creech. Defensive standouts were Aayan Jahangir, Anthony Lenette, Elijah Noska and Maddox Laurie. The Longhorns will have a bye week to lick their wounds and prepare for Randle High School.
The JV Longhorns Football team lost a tough one at home against the Dawson Eagles Thursday Night. The Final score was 28-9. Offensively quarterback Allen Howard led the offense on a couple of long drives that ended in the opponents red-zone. The defense held there own for most of the game but turnovers and short field position took their toll on the Longhorns.
The Longhorns took on Pearland Dawson Saturday afternoon at the Rig, losing 26-13. Offensively, the Horns were able to move the ball up and down the field but we’re unable to capitalize when it mattered most. Cole Murphy, Joseph Wilson, & Hymond Drinkard fought tooth and nail against a stout Eagles defense. Defensively, the Longhorns were led by Jeff Ugo and Tim Fisher who bought physicality and their big play ability to help keep the Horns in the game. The Horns will head into the bye-week before they district play.
VOLLEYBALL
Last week the Longhorn Volleyball Teams traveled to Tompkins High School last night to take on the Lady Falcons. The Freshman squad played a double header dropping the first match with scores of 10-25 and 16-25. They fought hard in their second match but came up short as well with scores of 22-25, 25-15, and 18-25. The JV team took down the Lady Falcons in two straight sets with scores of 25-15 and 25-20. The Varsity Longhorn Volleyball team battled in a 5 set loss to Katy Tompkins losing with scores of 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 14-25, and 12-15. Senior #2 Avery Shimaitis contributed 26 kills for the night. Serve ace leaders were senior #1 Dylan Hoskins and senior #2 Avery Shimaitis with 2 serve aces each. Senior #12 Logan Lednicky, junior #16 Eryn Rainer, and senior #18 Allie Sczech each had 5 blocks. Dig leader was junior #8 Riley Steubing with 16 total digs. Setting up the offense was senior #12 Logan Lednicky with 31 sets assists followed by senior #18 Allie Sczech with 20 set assists. Senior #1 Dylan Hoskins produced 35 solid serve receives. Player of the match for the Longhorns was junior #8 Riley Steubing.
FRIDAY GAME WILL BE GOLD OUT! The Longhorns will take the HOME court again this Friday night against Ft. Bend Austin. We are asking fans to wear GOLD as the Longhorn bring Awareness to Childhood Cancer. Freshman take the court at 5:00 followed by the JV at 6:00 and Varsity at 7:00.
