Message from Principal Coning
Hello IBW Parents and Guardians!
I/We are focused on our seniors quite a bit right now. I sent our senior class a message this past Monday about NOW being the time to step up your game and finish high school strong. There are 36 days of school left! Our attendance rates for the senior class have significantly improved with our prom attendance pilot where juniors and seniors with attendance rates under an 85% must show improvement in order to attend prom. Vice Principal Scott Burns, the VP in charge of 11th graders, and I continue to meet with juniors and seniors on this effort and we are seeing positive outcomes! We are all looking forward to a memorable prom on Saturday, May 4th.
We are working diligently on the next edition of our senior newsletter where there will be lots of information to share. I have received a few emails about graduation tickets, and want to let you know that each senior will be allowed 10 tickets to graduation for their families and friends but there will be an option to request additional tickets. We are also planning our senior meeting during FLEX time on Thursday, April 18th. We know many parents and families of the Class of 2024 are anticipating more information. More to come very soon! Stay tuned.....
Our school auction is around the corner on Friday, April 19th at the beautiful downtown Ecotrust Building. If your calendars and pocket books allow, I hope you can attend. This is an awesome way to connect with each other and many of our staff members while supporting all the amazing clubs, events, teams, and programs that Ida B. Wells High School offers our students. I look forward to seeing you, and you can find more information below about how to purchase your auction ticket.
I want to draw your attention to our PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) and let you know that our last meeting for the year is on Wednesday, May 8th, 6:30 pm in the library.
The PTA has lots going before the next meeting. They are hosting many fundraising events including a hanging flower basket sale very soon for delivery around Mother's Day. All fundraisers go towards the PTA scholarships for students.
The PTA is also in need of a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Please let us know if you are interested in joining the PTA. More information is below. It would be great to have parents who represent our diverse community join and participate in our PTA. Thank you for your consideration!
Don’t forget to follow me on my principalconing instagram where I share lots of photos of all the great things that happen at Ida B. Wells High School.
Happy spring days and more to come!
