Principal's update
Fall Weather is Here!
Please remember as the days grow colder and weather is inclement. We have outdoor recess for all of our students unless the weather is extreme...meaning heavy rains or temperature that is below where it is safe to be outdoors. Please help your Gator make sure they bring appropriate gear to be outside for 20 minutes plus each day.
SST and Callbacks
This year we have made a modification to our SST schedule to better support students and their needs. Our hope with this change is to provide more flexibility in our support layers for our students.
Student Support Time, or SST, is in the schedule every day for each grade level. It's a time where teachers use data about student performance and schedule students for additional support or offer extensions tied to the learning that is happening in their core classes. Some students are working intensely with our interventionists for all five days a week during this time. Other students may be working with one of their classroom teachers during SST and have one or two days of Callback times into the schedule. These Callback times are opportunities to quickly connect and help with students on their individual needs if they are absent for a day or two or need additional time to complete school work. Feel free to communicate to your students teachers if you think they have a need for a specific call back.
Caregiver Conferences
Caregiver Conferences are scheduled for November 10th. We will have information in the Gator News in the next week or two on how to sign up for conferences. Conferences are an opportunity to have a short conversation with your child's advisory teacher (Grades 5 and 6) or a core classroom teacher (Grades 7 & 8). You can also sign up for conferences with our unified arts and world language teachers for this day. More information coming soon.As Halloween is coming up again soon, here is what will be sent out to all students and caregivers across the district.
"As Halloween falls on a Tuesday this year and it is a school day, the MRPS's Administrators are communicating the expectations for the day. MRPS's Handbook states, "There shall be no school-initiated or -sanctioned formal or informal celebration or observance of religion, religious holidays or religious festivals." We have this in place to support all students from different backgrounds and beliefs. In accordance with our district handbook, each school will NOT be allowing costumes to be worn at school on Tuesday, October 31.
For those who choose to trick-or-treat and celebrate this holiday after school, stay safe and have a fun evening. Thank you in advance for your support."

8th Grade Class Trip Survey
Anxious Nation Film, Free Showing at Savoy on Oct 18
Details: NAMI Vermont – the Vermont state chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness – is organizing a free documentary screening of Anxious Nation across the state. This opportunity is made possible thanks to a grant from the Vermont Community Foundation. A facilitated Q&A or panel will follow the screening, along with mental health and suicide prevention resources.
The film sets out to lift the shroud of shame around mental health while giving emotional insights into how anxiety shows up in our children’s lives, impacts families, and what parents’ contributing role may be in the journey. The filmmakers offer deep insights into how we got here and what we can do to harness anxious energy for good.
Masque Theatre: Get your Tickets!
GET YOUR TICKETS NOW for the MRPS Masque Theatre production of Urinetown: The Musical by Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann. This satirical comedy is bound to get you laughing and hopefully questioning as it paints a ridiculous picture of our potentially resourceless future.
December 7th-9th at Montpelier High School
Is this show for kids?:
"There's no adult language or sexual innuendo, though there is some brief, cartoon violence when evil is inevitably punished. Urinetown's comedy extends far beyond toilet humor, as well; the lyrics and jokes are clever enough to appeal to adults, and clean enough for children younger than high school age." -bmgator.org
