Holicong Weekly Update
In a World Where you can be Anything, BE KIND!
Week of February 5, 2024
Holicong Community,
This month we celebrate Black History Month in our country, district and at Holicong. Our goal is to recognize the contributions of African Americans in different ways both in and out of the classroom setting. We want to be respectful of the students and families of color at Holicong to ensure anything we do is done in a manner that is inclusive and respectful of these students and families. This work started here years ago with our alumni Iffy Aduba and our work with Courageous Conversations and continues still with the work of our Humanitarians of Holicong and curriculum work across the district. Discussions about race and culture can be delicate not only for middle school students but for adults as well...and much harder to articulate in announcements or emails and the reason why meaningful discussions should take place. I will be meeting with students this week as we continue to listen to our students and can assure you they have a lot to say and their suggestions and feedback help make this work more meaningful.
I welcome any parent or caregiver who would like to be involved in these discussions to reach out to me directly as I would value any insights from those in our community. In the meantime, please look for updates and information in our daily announcements!
Kevin Shillingford, Principal
Please join us this Friday night for the Holicong Snow Ball Dance hosted by the Humanitarians of Holicong! This dance is for Holicong students of all grades! Please purchase your ticket this week.
Who: Holicong Students Only
What: Winter Semi-Formal Dance
When: Friday, February 9th from 7:00 - 9:00 PM
Where: Holicong Middle School (entrance at the "H")
Why: A chance to have fun and show off some dance moves with your Holicong friends...and an opportunity to make new ones!
How: You can pay $5 on My Payments Plus or at the door. We recommend paying in advance. Please have your student ID with you.
Dropoff - Parents can drop off students at the H.
Pickup - Students must remain at the dance until 8:30 (this is for liability purposes). It can be crowded in the parking lot during pickup time so please be careful and we do not allow students to be picked up on Holicong road. It is very dark at night and student safety is our primary concern.
Souper Bowl - Canned Food Drive
Please contribute to our canned food drive and supporting those in need. This event is sponsored by our Student Leadership Team and want to get the word out to everyone in the community! We are doing OK but know e can do better! So this one is for our parents as well to share the word!

ANNOUNCMENT FROM CBSD - CHANGES to DISTRICT CALENDAR
Please note message from CBSD for updates on school calendar based on weather cancellations.
• The K-12 half day that was scheduled for Wednesday, January 24 will now become a full day of school for all. This allows our secondary schools to make up some time lost to snow days in the first semester. The half-day will be moved to Friday, January 26, for all students grades K-12. Our teaching staff will use that afternoon for professional development. Again, we apologize for the confusion. This decision was made in consultation with our principals and administrators.
• At this time, we are not currently planning to make an additional adjustment to spring break based on today’s snow day. However, as you may be aware, PA school code requires that school districts must hold 180 days of school or an equivalent number of hours. If we end up with additional snow days we may need to make further adjustments to our calendar.
CBSD Job Fair - CBSD Support Staff Job Fair
- CB South is hosting a job fair on Monday, February 12 from 4:00 - 7:00 for individuals interested in working in CBSD. The district has a variety of openings in different areas and we also have a few at Holicong if you are interested!

College and Career Fair (SECONDARY ONLY)
