2025 5Essentials Survey
The 5Essentials survey is a statewide effort by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to gauge school climate and learning conditions in Illinois schools. The survey is administered online by UChicago Impact and provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers and parents to have a voice in improving their schools. The District is mandated to conduct a survey of school learning conditions annually. Your participation in this effort is critical as it helps guide district and school improvement planning each year.
All Huntley 158 schools need at least 20 percent parent participation to receive their scores.
TAKE THE SURVEY HERE!
Parents/guardians with more than one child in Huntley 158 schools are encouraged to take one survey for each child.
The ISBE survey is available in English and Spanish and is estimated to take 10-15 minutes.
Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will not be connected to you or your child.
The survey closes March 28, 2025. If you have questions, visit the ISBE website or email your building principal.
Student Placement Form
2025-2026 School Year
It is the time of year when the District 158 Elementary Schools begin to gather and organize information for classroom placements for the next school year. The following is the language in the student handbook that addresses student placement in District 158.
STUDENT PLACEMENT:
“Student placement is a function of building administration. Teachers work together with administration to place students in classrooms. Parents may provide written comments or information pertaining to their child’s learning needs by May 1st."
Please do not submit specific teacher names. We ask that learning characteristics of the child be the main focus of your request. Teachers do move grade levels, buildings, and districts so the characteristics are much more helpful. The final placement is at the discretion of building administration.
All the Colors of the Earth
This week, our students engaged in meaningful discussions centered around the book All the Colors of the Earth by Sheila Hamanaka. This beautifully illustrated story celebrates the diversity of human beings and highlights the many shades of skin, hair, and eyes that make each person unique and special.
Through this book, students explored the idea that all people, regardless of their backgrounds, are connected through love, kindness, and shared experiences. Discussions emphasized the importance of recognizing and appreciating differences while also understanding the deep connections we all share as part of one human family.
To extend this conversation at home, families can discuss the following questions with their children:
What does diversity mean to you, and why is it important?
How do the illustrations in the book help show the beauty of different backgrounds and cultures?
How can we celebrate and appreciate the differences in the people around us?
Can you think of a time when you felt different from others? How did that make you feel?
What are some ways we can be kind and inclusive to everyone at school?
By having these conversations at home, we can reinforce the values of kindness, acceptance, and respect in our school community. Thank you for your ongoing support in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students.
