A Note from Principal Presley
I hope you all had a wonderful week! The weather is still feeling fantastic, and I'm incredibly grateful for that. This week seemed to soar by, but maybe that's because tomorrow is a non-school day! Today, I was able to attend the monthly PPS principal training. A special shout out to Ms. Dahl for stepping in to serve as the principal for the day. The focus was around Special Education and how to support our neurodiverse students in the classroom. One of the topics I found particularly interesting was around understanding and addressing ableism. Click here if you're interested in reading more about the topic! In an effort to center Belonging, Equity & Inclusive Practices with families, too, PPS is excited to welcome families to a live virtual event, Including Samuel, on Monday, October 28 at 5:30 PM at OMSI Empirical Theater.
It's hard to believe we are almost half way through October already which means the PTA sponsored Spookarama is quickly approaching! This year, PTA is unveiling a reimagined Spookarama weekend, which offers a K-5 Spookarama Carnival on Friday, October 25 and a Middle School Spookarama Party on Saturday, October 26. Check out the PTA website for more specifics and some FAQs, and don't forget to Save the Date(s)! It seems like we have lots of shifting day/times and exciting PTA opportunities coming up, so I will do my best to outline them below.
- Monday, October 14th is the PTA meeting.
- Tuesday, October 15th is our school's monthly staff meeting. That means all students are released at 3:15 PM.
- Thursday, October 17th is our yearly Earthquake drill at 10:17 AM. Click here to learn more about the reason behind the day and time.
- Wednesday, October 23rd is an early release day for students. Students will dismiss at 12:45 PM.
- Friday, October 25th is the PTA Sponsored K-5 Spookarama.
- Saturday, October 26th is the PTA Sponsored 6-8 Spookarama.
- November 1st is a grading day for teachers, so there is no school for students.
- November 4th is a planning day for teachers, so there is no school for students.
Enjoy the long weekend! My husband and I are flying to Phoenix to see some friends and bake in the heat. Don't worry, our Ducks gear is already packed, so we most certainly will be tuning in for the big game.
Small Groups for 5th-8th Grade
This year small groups will be offered throughout the school year. Students may sign up for groups along with referrals from families and teachers. Small groups meet weekly for 6-12 weeks depending on the group for 30-45 minutes. If you would like your student to be in a small group this year, please use this form to look over with your student to identify a group(s) that they would like to join. At Beverly Cleary, we are prioritizing students connecting with their peers and trusted adults to enhance their sense of belonging and set them up for success in their academic journey! In order for your student to participate, please fill out this form by 10/25/24. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at lkobs@pps.net or 503-916-6480.
