Graduation Information
Dear Guardians/Parents of Senior Students,
The final week of school for our seniors is rapidly approaching and we know many of you have questions about Graduation and Senior Week activities. We hope that this letter provides you with most of the information you will need. Should you need further assistance, please contact the Office at 714-997-6211.
SENIOR WEEK: Please review the attached Senior Week Schedule with your senior. We encourage all seniors to participate and share these “once in a lifetime” activities with their classmates. Prior to senior week there are no senior ditch days. If seniors participate in one, they risk losing senior week activities including Graduation. Senior finals will be completed on Friday, May 31st. All items must be turned in to the library before 4:00 pm on this date.
GRADUATION CEREMONY: The graduation ceremony begins promptly at 7:00 pm at Fred Kelly Stadium on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. This traditional graduation ceremony is held to honor and award students who have completed the required course of study. To ensure that graduates and their families enjoy the ceremony, we request your cooperation as follows:
Please allow enough time for freeway construction, traffic congestion and seating.
Seating is on a “first come, first served” basis beginning at 6:15 pm. Each guest needs a ticket. Please do not “hold” seats for groups. All seating must be made available at 6:45 pm to guests already on hand.
Please do not disrupt the flow of the Senior Roll Call with excessive displays of recognition, so that every senior’s name can be heard.
Please do not interfere others’ views with open umbrellas, taking photos or using video cameras. Remember that a video of the entire ceremony will be available for purchase and a professional photographer will photograph each graduate immediately upon receiving his/her diploma.
Please do not bring any balloons, air-horns, etc…they will be confiscated.
It is a good idea to have a location pre-selected for you to meet your senior and guests following the ceremony.
NOTE: Please consider that the ceremony is approximately 1 hour long. Usually on a warm day this may be difficult for young children and/or the elderly. Umbrellas are not appropriate, for they block the view of others. There will be a nurse on hand.
STUDENT CONDUCT: WALKING ACROSS THE STAGE IS A PRIVILEGE. Any individual senior who displays inappropriate conduct can be removed from the ceremony. Any senior who appears to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol will not be permitted to take part in the Graduation Ceremony. We have always been proud of the conduct our seniors display and support their desire to have a Graduation Ceremony they can remember with pride.
CAP & GOWN: All Seniors participating in Graduation Ceremonies are required to wear the cap and gown, without exception. For those that have purchased already, Friday, May 24th is the date to pick up at OHS. For late purchases or any questions, please contact the Activities Office at (714) 997-6248. It is highly encouraged to dress business casual to Graduation. No flip flops or tennis shoes allowed. Heels must be at least the size of a quarter and no stilettos. Graduation gowns must be zipped up once the student begins to walk. Any student who arrives dressed inappropriately will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony. No alterations or decorations of any kind are to be made on the graduation gown. Any alteration made to the cap, must be approved by administration at check-in on the day of the event. If not appropriate, students may not participate or must change the cap immediately.
Students are not permitted to have cell phones at the ceremony; these will be confiscated at check in. Please leave these items at home or with family. In addition, noise makers, balloons, bubbles, and other distractors will also be confiscated. Food and drinks are not permitted past senior check in for line-up.
REGALIA: Only school approved regalia listed in the Graduation Program are permitted. All gifts which may include candy, flower, kukui, or money lei’s are not permitted on students prior to the ceremony. These items may be worn once the ceremony concludes and students reunite with family and supporters.
TICKETS: Admission to Graduation is by ticket only. Each senior will receive six (6) tickets on Tuesday, June 4th during graduation practice. We will make every effort to accommodate reasonable requests for extra tickets, but cannot guarantee additional tickets. The request for additional tickets is due by Wednesday, May 29th by completing the following: http://bit.ly/24gradtixohs Contact Mr. Roman in room 307 at 714-628-5662 if you need support.
PARKING: Parking is available in Fred Kelly Stadium parking lot. We strongly encourage you to allow sufficient time for traffic congestion around the stadium. Directions and a map are included. Please obey all traffic laws and parking codes.
DIPLOMA PICK UP: Diplomas will be available for pick up from 8:30 – 10:30 am on Friday, June 7, 2024. Your student must be present with ID to sign and receive their Diploma, no exceptions. Diplomas picked up after June 14th will be located with Mrs. Perez. If not picked up by 6/14, they will be available after 8/2. No exceptions.
PHOTOGRAPHS: Grad Images will mail proofs home 7 to 10 days after the ceremony for purchase. Since Grad Images is an outside company, info about photographs taken at Graduation will be given to students during practice.

SEMANA DE ACTIVIDAD: Revise el horario de la semana para los graduados con su hijo/hija. Alentamos a todos los alumnos del Doce grado a participar y compartir estas actividades "únicas en la vida" con sus compañeros de clase. Antes de la semana, No hay días de ausencia para los alumnos del Doce grado . Si un alumno participa en un día de Cortar Clases (ausencia), corren el riesgo de perder las actividades de los graduados, incluyendo la Graduación.Los exámenes finales deben ser completados el viernes 31 de Mayo . Todos las cosas deben ser entregadas en la biblioteca para las 4:00 pm en punto ese día.
CEREMONIA DE GRADUACIÓN : La ceremonia de graduación comienza puntualmente a las 7:00 p.m. en el Fred Kelly Stadium el miércoles 5 de Junio de 2024. Esta tradicional ceremonia de graduación se lleva a cabo para honrar y premiar a los estudiantes que completaron el curso de estudio requerido. Para garantizar que los graduados y sus familias disfruten de la ceremonia, solicitamos su cooperación de la siguiente manera:
Permita suficiente tiempo para la construcción de la autopista, la congestión del tráfico y los asientos.

Toga y Birrete : Todos los graduados que participen en las Ceremonias de Graduación deben usar la toga y el birrete, sin excepción. Para los que ya hayan comprado su capa y birrete el 24 de Mayo es el dia de recogerlo o cualquier pregunta, comuníquese con la Oficina de Actividades al (714) 997-6248. Se recomienda que cada alumno se vista como informal de negocios para la graduación. No se permiten chanclas ni tenis. Los tacones deben ser por lo menos del tamaño de una moneda de veinticinco centavos y sin tacones de aguja. Las togas de graduación deben cerrarse con cremallera una vez que el estudiante comience a caminar. Cualquier estudiante que llegue vestido inapropiadamente no podrá participar en la ceremonia. No se deben hacer alteraciones o decoraciones de ningún tipo en la toga de graduación. Cualquier alteración hecha a la gorra, debe ser aprobada por la administración en el check-in el día del evento. Si no es apropiado, los estudiantes no podrán participar o deberán cambiar la gorra inmediatamente.
A los estudiantes no se les permite tener teléfonos celulares en la ceremonia; estos serán confiscados en el check-in. Deje estos artículos en casa o con su familia. Además, también se confiscaran las matracas, globos, burbujas y otros distractores. No se permiten alimentos ni bebidas después del check-in para los graduados haciendo fila.
INSIGNIAS REALES : Solo se permiten las insignias aprobadas por la escuela que figuran en el Programa de Graduación. Todos los obsequios que pueden incluir dulces, flores, kukui o collares de flores no están permitidos para los estudiantes antes de la ceremonia. Estos artículos se pueden usar una vez que concluya la ceremonia.
ENTRADAS: La admisión a Graduación es solo con boleto. Cada graduado recibirá seis (6) boletos el martes 4 de Junio durante la práctica de graduación. Haremos todo lo posible para atender solicitudes razonables de boletos adicionales (máximo 4 boletos más), pero no podemos garantizar boletos adicionales . Para solicitar boletos adicionales se necesita hacer la solicitud para Mayo 29 complete lo siguiente forma http://bit.ly/24gradtixohs , Se pueden solicitar boletos adicionales al Sr. Ramiro en la oficina #307 o 714 628-5662 si necesita ayuda.
ESTACIONAMIENTO: El estacionamiento está disponible en el Estadio Fred Kelly. Le recomendamos que permita suficiente tiempo para la congestión del tráfico alrededor del estadio. Se incluyen direcciones y un mapa. Obedezca todas las leyes de tránsito y los códigos de estacionamiento.
RECOJER EL DIPLOMA: Los diplomas estarán disponibles para recogerlos de 8:30 am a 10:30 am el 7 de junio de 2024. FOTOGRAFÍAS: Grad Images enviará las pruebas a casa entre 7 y 10 días después de la ceremonia para su compra. Dado que Grad Images es una empresa externa, la información sobre las fotografías tomadas en la graduación se les dará a los estudiantes durante la práctica.

On Wednesday, May 1st our gym and locker room facilities will be closed for upgrades.
Students who currently use the locker room will have available restroom facilities to dress out when needed.

These banners were designed by OUSD students and will be printed at one of our OUSD Spyder Labs. Banners will be installed at Fred Kelly Stadium on June 3rd and remain up through all graduation ceremonies for Orange Unified School District.
The banners will be available for pick up at Fred Kelly Stadium on Monday June 10th from 10am to 12pm. Please make arrangements to have your banner picked up at that time.
PRIDE Time Check-In
All students need their current 23-24 school ID with them at all times. We will begin a new way to check-in to PRIDE Time this week. If a student needs a replacement, they may stop by room 307.

Behind the Badge - OPD Community Outreach
Parents from OHS as well as at least 2 other OUSD schools attended six, two hour sessions over 3 weeks put on by the Orange Police Department. This Spanish speaker community outreach covered a variety of topics for our parents about the OPD and what they do, drugs, gang issues, community safety, and other topics. On the last day of the workshop, parents were given a tour around the Orange Police Department and awarded a certificate for their participation.
Thank you to the Orange PD and all of our parents who took time out of their day to attend these amazing workshop sessions!

School Resource Officer and Orange Police Department, Officer Hernandez will host a workshop on Parents Against Drugs and educating our community on how to provide a safe environment for all students. This event will take place from 9:00 - 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 20th in the Cafeteria.

CASH for COLLEGE Event - 03/16/24
There will be another Cash for College event to help Senior families complete the process. Please keep in mind, seniors must create an FSA ID to apply to financial aid. Each student will need to bring:
● A charged laptop
● Social security number (it is ok if you don’t have one, please still attend the workshop)
● Date of Birth
● Personal email
This workshop is hosted to prepare you for the upcoming hands-on application assistance workshop on March 16th. These are great opportunities to start on your financial aid applications. See you on Tuesday!

SCC Course Offerings for Spring 2024
Here's some important information regarding the upcoming Spring 2024 semester for Early College (dual enrollment):
- The finalized Spring 2024 Early College Class Schedule is now available. You can find the complete class listing attached and below
- Santiago Canyon College's Spring 2024 semester starts on February 12, 2024.
- Registration for Early College (dual enrollment) students begins this Thursday, November 16, 2023.
- Students can choose classes from the provided list or any course offered by SCC. To explore classes, please direct your students to sccollege.edu/schedule.
- The Special Admit Form has been updated – sccollege.edu/saf.
- SCC will continue to provide free textbooks for Early College students for Spring 2024. Further details at sccollege.edu/bookvoucher.
- The next Early College virtual orientation is scheduled for Thursday, November 16, 2024, at 6:00 pm. Please refer to the attached flyer for more information.
- Early College orientation at your high school campus will take place the week of January 15, 2024.
- If your students require assistance, please guide them to our representatives working onsite at your high school.
College Application Day for SENIORS
Orange High School along with the Orange County Department of Education, hosted the 8th annual College Application Day for our Senior students. During their English 12 class, our students had the opportunity to apply, ask questions, and get help from several volunteers supporting OHS Seniors from UCI, CSUF, SCC, College Bound and more.

ORANGE HIGH SCHOOL MEASURE S PHASE 2 TOPPING OUT
Superintendent's Message:
In building construction, topping out is a builders' rite traditionally held when the last beam (or its equivalent) is placed atop a structure during its construction. The topping out ceremony is an age-old tradition that marks a major milestone for everyone on the project. It signifies the groundwork being laid and the countless hours already poured into the building. It also commemorates the hard work that each person has contributed to reach this day.
We were excited to celebrate this historic moment for Orange High’s new 26-thousand-square-foot student services and administrative building, which will also house six new 1,200-square-foot classrooms. Although modern touches will highlight the building’s design, the new administration building will pay homage to the first building constructed on the campus in 1952 with the return of the Townsend Room, a principal’s conference room that also serves as a mini museum for Orange High School artifacts. Many of the Townsend room contents are historically significant items that have been preserved since the early 1900s before the original school property on Glassell and Palm and was sold to Chapman University in the 1950s.
Also included in the new construction will be the reinstallation of a cornerstone from the dedication of the first building on the original Orange High campus. This cornerstone features a time capsule from 1905 that was opened by district staff in a ceremony held earlier this year.
Other improvements to the campus include a new “alumni corner” on the corner of Walnut Street and Shaffer Street, an expanded main quad area, updated lighting, new landscaping, and added walkways for better accessibility. The alumni corner, specifically, will feature a new electronic marquee, seat walls with brick veneer, and many other enhancements that welcome students, parents, and community members to the main entrance plaza for the campus.
Many thanks to the Board of Education, CARE (Community Advancement through Renovation for Education) Committee, and the entire OUSD community for making this possible. Thanks to the community’s support of Measure S, Orange Unified is the only district in Orange County with a brand-new STEM Complex on each of our high school campuses.

REMINDER - NO FOOD DELIVERY SERVICES
Please note that food delivery services are not permitted to drop food at the campus entrance per District guidelines. Our Nutrition Services Team provides free breakfast, snack, and lunch to all students. We respectfully ask you to work with your student(s) to be prepared and arrive to school on time with all items needed for school each day. Parents or guardians may only drop food deliveries as a check-in through the attendance office. The individual dropping food off must be on the emergency contact screen in Aeries. Food deliveries of any kind are not permitted on campus, both during school hours (i.e. pizza delivery, Uber Eats, etc.). Please help us promote personal responsibility as well as preserve valuable learning time. Thank you for your cooperation.
