From Assistant Principal Jeff Waters
Dear RGMS Community,
Happy almost June!
As always, it’s a busy time for Robert Gray Middle School.
Last Friday, we welcomed our incoming 6th graders to the Robert Gray Middle School campus for a tour of the top floor of the building. This was the first time that students stepped foot in the Gray facility since the January ice storm. 6th graders represent the future of our school community and welcoming them to campus was powerful and symbolic.
Meanwhile on Monday, this year’s 6th graders embarked on one of the greatest adventures in middle school: a week of overnight camping and deep hands-on learning in the pristine Oregon forests - Outdoor School.
Students will remember this experience forever - the songs, the sites, the campfire stories, learning about soil and water health, eating together in the dining hall. It will be a great send off for these students after a challenging year.
Students return Saturday, 6/1/24 at about 2:00 pm and will be returning to the Robert Gray site for parent pick up.
You’ll notice over these next few weeks and into July that our communication will be changing focus - from life at “The Grax” to the return to Robert Gray. We fully expect to start next year back at home in our own school and will keep you up-to-date as our planning solidifies.
That’s all for now - stay tuned next week for details and information related to the end of the school year.
In the service of students and families,
Jeff Waters
Assistant Principal

8th Grade Parents
Looking for a way to get involved at Ida B. Wells High School next year? The Ida B. Wells PTA works to keep parents informed, support teachers, advocate for the Ida B. Wells community, and fund teacher grants and academic programs. We provide funds for classroom projects, staff recognition, and academic scholarships, as well as arrange parent education workshops and sponsor the grad night party.
The IBW PTA is looking to fill leadership positions for 2024-2025. Most positions involve a time commitment of only 2-5 hours/month, with meetings about every other month. We still need to fill the following board roles: president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and membership. Open committee chair: fundraising. Experienced board and committee members are available to assist in the transition next year.
Learn more about the IBW PTA on the school website here. For an overview of all the IBW parent groups see here. Questions? Email Julie Worley at idabwellspta@gmail.com.
