Message from the Principal

Dear Virginia Lake Families,

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend! This week is Red Ribbon Week! Red Ribbon Week is a time where we celebrate being healthy. Students are invited to participate in spirit week and teachers will engage students in lessons on keeping their body healthy.

The themes are as follows:

Monday 10/21- PJ day- Get lots of sleep to keep your body healthy!

Tuesday 10/22-Wear your favorite sports jersey- Go Team Healthy!

Wednesday 10/23- Mismatch Day- Unhealthy items don' t mix with your body.

Thursday 10/24- Wear Tie Dye or Bright Clothes- My Future is Bright!

Friday 10/25- Wear Red- Celebrate being healthy!

Picture folders will be sent home soon. All students will receive a folder with their picture proof. Families who ordered pictures will have their photos in the folder. Families can order pictures after they see a sample of their child's photo from the folder. Picture retakes are scheduled for Monday, November 18th.

Go Guardian Parent

Welcome to GoGuardian Parent! Our school has just granted you access to GoGuardian Parent, a mobile app designed to provide parents/guardians insight and control over their student's online activity when on school-managed devices and accounts. First, the GoGuardian Parent app provides an overview of your children's online activity on school-managed devices and accounts - this overview includes the apps, extensions, documents, and websites your student visited. Second, GoGuardian Parent provides you with an additional set of internet controls that you can set for out-of-school hours. GoGuardian Parent was created to help provide students additional educational support and is a companion to the classroom engagement and internet filtering tools that our school uses.

What is included in this app:

Top 5 overview of your student's online activity
30-day overview of your student's online activity
Ability to block websites on school-issued devices during out-of-school hours
Ability to pause internet access on school-issued devices during out-of-school hours, either on-demand or at a scheduled time

To access the app, please follow the below instructions:

Download the app

After the app is successfully downloaded and installed, open it up and enter the email address registered with the school. Note: If you forgot your registered email address, please reach out to your school secretary.
Login/Check Email: Check your email on your phone for a link to log in to the app. Tap "Verify your email", and it will take you straight to the app. Note: If you don't have access to your email through the device you used to log in, tap on "Login with verification code", and copy and paste the verification code from the email into the app.

Please contact your building secretary if you need to update the email associated with your student’s account in the District 15 system.

Service Club

Students raise money to help families devastated from the hurricanes.

Writing

Students in 4th grade engage in the writing process.

Students in 3rd grade learn about items that repel water.

Did you know? Missing just one day of school can take up to three days to catch up on lost learning.

Parents, this year District 15 is prioritizing student attendance. While some absences are unavoidable, others can be prevented, such as vacations, staying home when not ill (except for Illinois-allowed mental health days), or missing school for non-essential reasons.

To help, we’re sending a monthly attendance update for each student, so you can track your child’s attendance and see how it compares to district trends. These updates will be sent via text and email, and you can unsubscribe anytime. Our goal is to reduce unexcused absences and keep students engaged in learning.

Each month, we’ll also share tips to support strong attendance. This month’s tip, found in the flier linked HERE, helps clarify when to keep your child home and when it’s safe to send them to school. We hope this helps as we enter the fall and winter seasons.

Trunk or Treat Volunteers Needed- Friday, October 25th- 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Our Halloween Trunk or Treat event is one of our students favorite events. We are in need of families to host a car for the event. Please sign up if you are interested.
