Parents of Young Children Mission Statement & Covenant
This UU community exists to encourage, support, guide & connect parents of young children through the joys, changes, & challenges of parenting in a loving, accepting, safe space.
We covenant together to uplift and accept our parenting choices;
to honor the paths & diversity of our families;
to default to grace
to exchange ideas
to state our needs and expectations
to use yes and…
to be open and welcoming
The Parents of Young Children Group meets on first and third Saturdays from
9ish to 11am
The first Saturday is a parent focused meeting with conversations led by our Director of Lifespan Faith Development, Chris Jarman.
Topics will rotate based on check-ins, life, holidays and what families are in need of.
Grownups will meet in the library for the full time and the children will be in the nursery with the childcare staff.
The third Saturday is a play or group focused day for the entire PYC group.
This will eb and flow as we explore our needs for the group.
Right now we are volunteering as parents to lead a Saturday by planning an activity or theme for the day.
Parents will first meet in the library for a 30-45 minute check-in, while the kids go to the nursery. This will give us time to decompress before we start our activities. After this, we will join together as a group and play all together (unless otherwise set up by the host/volunteer parent)
Next Meeting July 20th

Unitarian Universalists Adopt New Language on Core Religious Values
“This is a historic moment for Unitarian Universalism, as we move our living tradition forward to focus on shared values that will help promote liberation, radical inclusion, and communal care both within our church and across society,” said Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt, the UUA’s President. “I am so proud of the work that our congregations, volunteers, UUA staff, and especially individual UUs have put in throughout this discernment process. It demonstrates how functioning democratic processes can be used to create change that is just and equitable.”

Diversity: One Minute Reflection
Our faith proclaims that no one person knows the whole truth. Embracing the wide spectrum of human diversity asks us to understand that the truth we come to community with sometimes depend on who we are and how our identities have been shaped in the world.
How has diversity changed your spiritual journey?

A Unitarian Universalist Book for Kids
About Death presents a gentle, yet unsentimental, story about how a family deals with the death of their beloved dog. The story is followed by a series of questions a child might pose about death and its aftermath, particularly the rituals and cultural customs that accompany the death of a person. The answers to these questions, like the story that proceeds them, are frank and respectful of the child's curiosity.

What to Do When the News Scares You A Kid’s Guide to Understanding Current Events
Scary news is an inevitable part of life. This book can support and guide efforts to help scary news seem a bit more manageable for young people. Whether from television news reports, the car radio, digital media, or adult discussions, children are often bombarded with information about the world around them. When the events being described include violence, extreme weather events, a disease outbreak, or discussions of more dispersed threats such as climate change, children may become frightened and overwhelmed. Parents and caregivers can be prepared to help them understand and process the messages around them by using this book.
