Principal's Corner
What a week at Old Town! These are the weeks that bring a bright smile to a principal! We had lots of celebrations and events that brought our community together. On Saturday, 10 students attended the Student Leadership Summit. This summit is designed to build the skills of our student leaders, give them ideas for leading on campus, and celebrate their leadership. Old Town Elementary continued our long-standing tradition of hosting a ceremony to honor the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives in service to our country. Mr. Robinson, a beloved Music Teacher at Old Town worked tirelessly to support the Old Town Singers Choir as they prepared for the event. On Tuesday, many guardians and families joined us for Thanksgiving Lunch. We are thankful for not only these events, but for our community. As the weather begins to change, we also see several changes in our students! This week students reflected on things they are thankful for, and the responses are overwhelming. From family, to teachers, and Old Town, our students have appreciation for it all. I encourage you the next time you are at Old Town to look at our big turkey in the hall and see the words of our Texans. Many students are growing, getting taller, and learning each day. Week’s like this one, are perfect for pausing and being thankful for it all.
Upcoming Event- Night of Lights
We are excited to announce a special event at Old Town Elementary, our 1st annual “Night of Lights!” This vibrant event will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2024. We invite you to join us in celebrating the diverse cultures that make our school community so unique.
The Night of Lights will feature food, music, and activities from various cultures around the world. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about and appreciate the rich traditions of their classmates while fostering an inclusive environment.
Here’s how you can get involved:
Participate: We encourage families to share their cultural heritage by showcasing traditional food, attire, games, read alouds, or performances.
Volunteer: We need volunteers to help with event setup, cleanup, decorations, and activities. If you are available to assist, your help would be greatly appreciated!
Donate: We need donations of strings of white lights as well as boxes of tiny candy canes.
Attend: Mark your calendars! Bring your family and enjoy an evening filled with cultural exploration, learning, and fun.
If you would like to contribute, please sign up here by November 14, 2024 and let us know how you’d like to participate. Your involvement will make this celebration even more special! If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Adams at katherine_adams@roundrockisd.org.
Thank you for your support in making this event a success. We look forward to celebrating our diverse community together!
Safety Reminders at Arrival and Dismissal
Please remember to utilize the crosswalks during arrival and dismissal. We have two crosswalks near the front of the school that staff members support to help students and families navigate traffic safely during arrival and dismissal. We have had families crossing through traffic as the car line is moving. We really appreciate your understanding and support in keeping everyone safe.
EARLY PICKUP PROCEDURES:
If a student needs to be released early from school for an appointment, we kindly ask that parents/guardians come to the front office intercom with a Photo ID to check the student out.
If someone other than the parent/guardian will be picking up the student, let us help you with this request. The person picking up must be listed as one of the student’s emergency contacts. Parents/Guardians should email the school registrar (angie_castro@roundrockisd.org) at least 24 hours in advance to add any additional people to the emergency contacts. The email should specify the name and phone number of the person picking up.
If you need to pick up your student near the end of the day, students will be released no later than 2:30 p.m.
To preserve instructional time, students are called to the office once the parent arrives.
Parents/Guardians/Emergency Contact will need to bring a valid photo ID
Old Town begins dismissal for our pre-kinder students and students in special programming at 2:40 each day.
Our K-5 dismissal begins with our youngest Texans at 2:50.
We greatly appreciate your understanding in allowing a smooth dismissal for all students and families, these guidelines help all students remain safe during dismissal at Old Town.
