Last Day of School: June 13th at 12:55PM
Dear Flower Valley Community,
Where did the time go? It is so hard to believe the last week of school is upon us. This past week, we celebrated the amazing work of our 5th grade patrols and the induction of our 4th graders into this leadership role. Our 5th graders did such a fabulous job training our 4th graders, and our 4th graders have taken over this role seamlessly to support arrival and dismissal this past week. I always say how grateful we all are for our patrols. They really do quite a bit to ensure all of our students are safe and cared for during arrival and dismissal. They also are wonderful role models throughout the day. I can't thank our patrols enough for all that they do!
Please see a few end of year reminders below:
- If you are a family with an incoming kindergarten student, please complete the enrollment before the last day of school. During these uncertain budget times for MCPS, it is critical that our students are enrolled as early as possible.
- Our 5th grade promotion is June 12th at 5:30PM at Rockville High School. Please see information below about how you can volunteer to support this wonderful evening.
- If your child has medication at FVES or will need medication next school year, please review the information below.
I want to also share a few updates regarding our staff and some of the opportunities that have come their way for the upcoming school year.
- Mr. Langsam will be retiring at this end of the year. We thank him for his dedicated service to MCPS students, staff, and families throughout his career.
- Ms. Cotting will be St. Raphael's School's next principal.
- Mr. Kullberg will be transitioning to a part-time position with MCPS while also serving as Director of Music Ministries at his parish.
- Ms. Seaman will be transitioning to Gaithersburg Elementary School as their media specialist.
- Ms. Wu received an opportunity to teach at a school closer to her home and her family, so she will be joining the Cabin Branch Elementary School team.
While we will miss them dearly, we are excited about their professional journeys. Please join me in congratulating them. :)
I am looking forward to a week of celebration this upcoming week. We will be recognizing all of our 5th graders at their promotion June 12th at 5:30PM at Rockville High School. Please see below about how you can support this wonderful evening.
I hope you all have a peaceful weekend.
With Firefly Pride,
Dr. Fish

Interested in Participating in Summer Action Planning with FVES?
Every summer, we engage families in the work around planning for the upcoming school year. This involves reviewing data from the current year, reviewing our current action plan, and providing input for next year's work supporting students and their learning. If you are interested in participating in this work, please complete the interest form linked here. The tentative date for this work is July 23rd. If you are not available on this date, we will use your input from the parent survey that is linked in the newsletter and here. We also welcome additional input via email at Angie_L_Fish@mcpsmd.org. Thank you, in advance, for your continued collaboration.

End of Year Parent Survey: Your Voice Matters!
Your voice makes a difference in the work we do each and every day. We need your input to best reflect upon the current year and plan for the upcoming year. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey linked here. Since portions of the survey focus on individual student experiences, please complete one survey for each child attending FVES. Thank you for your input!

Kindergarten Enrollment Update
We are getting close to summer, so if you have not yet enrolled your incoming kindergartener, please do so as soon as possible. With the current budget situation in MCPS, they are closely monitoring our kindergarten enrollment to ensure our current level of staffing is appropriate. If you know of friends in the community with incoming kindergarteners, please let them know to enroll as soon as possible as well. This helps us better plan for next year. Once we have your enrollment information, we will be able to provide you with updates about opportunities to get to know the kindergarten teachers, play dates, class assignments, and so much more!
IMPORTANT: You do not have to wait for the medical form to be completed prior to enrolling.
Should you have any questions, please email Mrs. Sintetos at Catherine_G_Sintetos@mcpsmd.org or call 240-740-1780.
