Monomoy Theater Company presents "Puffs"
Name of the Show: Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic
If you go: Performances of Puffs are at 7PM on Thursday, November 14th; Friday, November 15th; and on Saturday, November 16th. The show is performed in the Monomoy Regional High School Auditorium, 75 Oak Street, Harwich, MA, 02645. Ticket prices are $5 for students and $10 for the general public. Puffs is rated PG-13.
Synopsis: Puffs is the story of Wayne Hopkins: a regular boy who finds out he’s a wizard and goes to school in England where he makes two best friends and has adventures. This perhaps sounds familiar. But Wayne is sorted as a Puff; he and the other Puffs simply want to learn how to be wizards and avoid attacks from evil wizards. No matter your relationship to the series, there is something here for you. Puffs is essentially a Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead-style romp through this world of wizards. Familiar characters pop in and out, but audiences see a different side of key moments. “But don’t ruin the Potterverse form!” I hear you diehard fans shouting. Though there are plenty of references to the classic moments of the books and films, we did not take the easy route. We are fans, so we (very, very) meticulously combed through the series to make sure we never broke the rules of the world. Timelines always match up. Plus, you get new lessons and deep-cut wizard jokes. Come enjoy this spoof dedicated to “everyone never destined to save the world.”

A story for Veterans Day
"Lisa’s father was a member of the Flying Tigers during World War II, and he traveled to China as part of his service. The United States played a significant role during WWII, saving the lives of many Chinese people. This is the uniform that Lisa’s father wore during that time. It is such an honor to be in a photo with Lisa while she is wearing her father’s Flying Tigers uniform!
As someone who was born and raised in China and is now a U.S. citizen, I feel immense gratitude towards the American people represented by the Flying Tigers for their role in World War II. My family remains in China, which deepens my appreciation for the history and the connection between the two nations.
Additionally, my maternal grandfather, who had retired as a military doctor for the Nationalist forces before the war, still bravely rushed to the front lines during World War II to aid wounded soldiers and civilians. This personal history further enhances my respect and gratitude for the collaborative efforts during that period." -Ms. Melinda Jones, Mandarin Teacher

A beloved Halloween tradition continues
On Halloween, members of Sandscript (our creative writing club) visited classes at Chatham Elementary and Harwich Elementary to read their own Halloween/Autumn themed, illustrated stories. This has been a Sandscript tradition for over twenty years! Many thanks to the wonderful teachers who invited us into their classrooms: Elise Johnson-Dreyer, Barbara Laub, Emily Tuccio, Oona Melanson, Caitlin Imparato, and Julia Blois. We can't do this without them! Thanks also go Joy Jordan for the great photos and Principal Jen Police for supporting this visit every year.
Animal Welfare Club would like to thank...
The Animal Welfare Club would like to thank our wonderful faculty, staff, and students for donating to our Hurricane Relief for Animals and Rescuers. We raised a total of $315 from students walking around with cups and from the faculty/staff breakfast we hosted. The Club is sending a check for $200 to Animal Victory of North Carolina and another check for $200 to the Humane Society of the U.S./Hurricane Relief.
The AWC also wants to thank our staff, faculty, and students (and maybe parents!) for all the towels, blankets, throws, and sheets donated throughout the month of October. We made deliveries to Wild Care in Eastham, the Animal Rescue League in Brewster, and the MSPCA in Centerville. Their thank you's can be read downstairs in the AWC's display case near the main office.

Scholar Athletes of the Month: October 2024
Fiona Moore
Fiona, a senior, is not only a three sport athlete, but a 3 sport varsity captain who gets it done on the field, court and golf course, as well as the classroom. She is a 2024 Cape and Islands All-star for soccer where she is an important part of both the attack and the defense playing from her center midfield position. In the classroom she is a high honors student with a 4.41 GPA who hopes to pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering. - Coach Jenn Peterson
Chatham Gillis
Chatham is a 4th year Cross country athlete and an invaluable member of the squad. He is supportive to all members of the team. He will lead warm ups without being prompted and in his junior year has seen tremendous improvement in his race positions. He is a polite and well mannered young man who is a pleasure to coach. I even got to witness a fantastic history classroom presentation that he gave on modern art. This proved to me that he really is a gifted 'student athlete'. - Coach Phil Wright
