Day of Discovery
A Day of Discovery provides an Aquarium experience specifically tailored to individuals with sensory differences and their families. Days of Discovery are hosted by The Florida Aquarium in partnership with the Center for Autism & Related Disabilities (C.A.R.D.) at the University of South Florida.
To address the needs of our diverse audiences, Day of Discovery has limited capacity and is reserved for families and children with sensory differences and/or accessibility challenges. Special effects, lights, and music will be adapted for those with sensory differences. Day of Discovery is free for members and $10 for non-members.
Check the website below for more information. This event is in partnership with the Autism Society of Florida for Autism Acceptance Month.
ESOL Extended School Year Program
The ESOL program is proud to share the information regarding ESOL Extended School Year.
We will have 12 sections across the district serving our elementary students in grades 1st & 2nd and 4th & 5th.
Students who are required to attend another ESY program such as Reading Camp, are not able to participate in the ESOL ESY program. We will focus on the acceleration of language through Visual Arts.
Students will be inspired by learning about artists around the world who have made a positive impact on their communities by reading about their lives and writing about how these artists have made a difference. Students will participate in individual and collective art projects and will learn how they can also make a positive change for their local community.
Each group will be comprised of ESOL students from the participating schools and priority is given to students with the lowest English proficiency.
The program dates are:
June 10th - 13th
June 17th - 20th
June 24th - 27th
The program times are 7:30 am to 2:00 pm.
**If your student is invited, you will receive a notification through MyStudent**
Please log in to accept or deny your child's participation. You will also be able to request summer transportation through the portal as well.
You have until Friday, May 3rd to respond.
Most ESOL ESY locations are summer feeding sites where students will receive breakfast and lunch.
The only two locations that will not have summer food service are Odessa and Seven Oaks. If your child will attend ESOL ESY in either of these locations, please plan to provide a morning and afternoon snack for them.
Reach out to us if you have questions or need support.

Student in the spotlight
Our April student in the spotlight is Rodolfo Aranda Rios, who came from Cuba to the US in August 2022.
He began his 11th grade at Hudson High School not knowing any English and feeling lost but he says "the language started sticking to him as if it was magic" and now, he has reached a level when he can understand fully and complete his classwork without much trouble.
He sees value in immersing students in English language, as this supports faster language acquisition.
When asked to share some advice for those coming to study here in the US, like him he says "Not to be afraid of talking and using the English language" and also to "not be afraid to make mistakes and use the English language as much as possible".
Rodolfo plays soccer, and the extended time spent at school for practices has been a key factor in his English language development, as he felt the need to communicate with his teammates and coaches.
He describes getting several supports at Hudson High School, for example, receiving his work printed in Spanish and English as well as ongoing help from the ESOL IA Ms. Serova.
Rodolfo is now a Senior who has successfully met all requirements for graduation. He plans to join PHSC immediately and later transfer to FSU seeking a degree in Physical therapy.
The ESOL program at Pasco County Schools is very proud of the efforts made by Rodolfo and congratulates him for his remarkable dedication! We know he will make a wonderful Bi-lingual Physical Therapist.
