Cougar Cookout Success
We are off to a fantastic start of the 2024-25 school year! Although it's just been two days of school, we were so excited to see so many families at our Cougar Cookout on Wednesday! What a great evening with time to meet some new friends, check in with other community members, meet your new teacher, and get a feel for the campus...while enjoying a hot dog and nachos! Of course, you also had the chance to purchase Woodside Spirit Wear and start the paperwork for volunteering, as well as updating your student's information and School Funding Form! Thanks to all who came out! We hope you enjoyed it!!

Woodside - Rooted in Community, Growing Together and Branching Out
As we continues to expand our Innovative School efforts with a focus on design thinking and expanding our community engagement, we have decided on the theme for this year: Rooted in Community, Growing Together and Branching Out. We will continue work around the pillars of Belong, Experience, and Connect! We thank the SJUSD Communications Department for new shirts that our staff was excited to share on Friday!
Belonging and Attendance
As we begin the year promoting Belonging and a strong sense of community, we are celebrating some evidence about our Innovative Efforts, including Belonging are improving attendance! We celebrate our ATTENDANCE IMPROVEMENT AWARD from the 2023-2024 School Year with all of you! Together, we are making a difference in our students' success, being recognized as one of the SJUSD schools with the best improvement!
Because we know that student success starts with good attendance, we will continue to add initiatives like attendance rewards and work with families to support however we can. Regular attendance has been linked to higher achievement, stronger bonds to the school and community, lower rates of high-risk behaviors, and increased participation in higher education and career. We want these for all of our students!
We ask that families support efforts to increase attendance by making a conscientious effort to:
Ensure students arrive to school and class on time
Plan family vacations during non-school days
Try to schedule doctor appointments for your child after school hours
Bring your child to school before and/or after appointments that are scheduled during the school day
Only allow your child to stay home when he/she has a contagious illness or is too sick to attend
Report your child's absence at Woodside Attendance: (916) 971-5216 or email woodsideabsence@sanjuan.edu
Optional TK and Kindergarten Lunch Routine
While we will continue to offer a cafeteria lunch to our TK and Kindergarteners, we ask you to follow the expectations below this year:
- Line up in cafeteria at 12:15pm MTWF and 12:05 Thursdays at the earliest.
- After attaining lunch, sit with your student in the cafeteria (at designated tables) or in the quad to eat the lunch.
- These young students need to have close supervision throughout the line, sitting, and eating the lunch.
- Clean up and leave campus as soon as your child finishes eating.
Innovative School: Design Updates
Hello Woodside Community! My name is Deanna Victor. This is my 29th year in the district, and my second year working with Woodside. Last year, I was the design team lead and worked to build design thinking skills on campus.
This year, I am back at Woodside with a new title, innovative school facilitator, but the same goals. I will continue to support the staff and students in their innovative thinking and the creation of prototypes. I am also hoping to connect with all of you - the community - that helps make Woodside such an amazing place!
My work space is located in THE LAB, which is part design and part art space. I’d love to connect with you, so please send me an email if you are interested in discussing anything related to innovation and design at Woodside.
