Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month
ATTENTION: FOR ADULTS ONLY.
NONE OF THIS INFORMATION WILL BE SHARED WITH STUDENTS.
As you may be aware, September is National Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month. During this time, survivors, allies, mental health advocates, prevention organizations, and community members unite to promote suicide prevention awareness.
Although your children may be young, now it is the best time to become educated on suicide prevention; to consider their mental health and wellness; and to build a strong foundation, open communication, and trust. Additionally, being educated in this sensitive area may afford you the knowledge to help an older child, relative, friend, or even yourself.
Although this may seem like a heavy subject to address at the beginning of the school year, losing one precious life to the act of suicide is one too many. With the ongoing stress of the pandemic (known as Pandemic Fatigue) many persons are experiencing anxiety, depression, and suicide ideation. As a community it is important that we stay connected and vigilant.
