December 23-January 3 | Winter Break

Mobile Dentist
Our school has partnered with Smile Programs, the mobile dentists, to offer convenient dental care right here at school. The mobile dentist provides a full range of services including exams, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride, sealants, and, when needed, fillings—all in the familiar school setting. Best of all, if your child is insured with Medicaid/CHIP, there’s usually no cost! They also offer options for private insurance and affordable self-pay. The Mobile Dentist will visit West Elementary on February 6. Sign your child up today by visiting www.MobileDentists.com or by returning the permission form sent home earlier this week.
Cold Weather Reminder
As cold weather settles into Ohio, please remember to send your child to school with a hat, gloves, and coat. We will continue to enjoy outdoor recess any day that is above 25 degrees, with wind chill.
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
During the week of Thanksgiving, Mrs. Eppich's class embarked on a historical journey to learn about the history of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!
The class learned about why the parade was started, the transformation of the balloons and floats over the years, and how the parade had changed over time. To celebrate our learning, the class joined the other 3rd and 4th grade classes to partake in Midview West’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. It was a spectacular time!
Native American Social Studies Unit
As part of our Social Studies unit on Native Americans, the classes of Mrs. Brandenburg and Miss Loudermilk have studied the early people of Ohio–specifically the Adena, Hopewell, and Fort Ancient tribes.
Students explored various aspects of these tribes, including:
- Geography (climate, location, landforms)
- Food (acquisition and preparation methods)
- Shelters
- Clothing
- Customs
To deepen their understanding, students conducted more in-depth research on these topics and created digital slide presentations.
These Woodland Indians utilized three different types of shelters: wigwams, teepees, and longhouses. As a culmination of the unit, students chose one style of dwelling and built 3-D models, which they incorporated into dioramas of Native American villages. Finally, students gave oral presentations about their projects.
