What is Advanced and Accelerated Programs?

The Advanced and Accelerated Programs Office oversees the admissions process for the Rapid Learner (Del Paso Manor, Deterding, and Pershing) and Diplomat (Churchill IB) programs. Our goal is to support the needs of students who are working above grade level and in need of more acceleration. Our programs and testing are not IQ based. While students in the programs may have high IQ's, the programs are designed for students who learn concepts quickly and are motivated to further their academic journey.

Calendar of Events for 2024-25

9/25 @ 4pm on Zoom (https://sanjuan.zoom.us/j/5838748667) The purpose of this meeting is to go over the changes to our communication this year and talk about what we are currently doing to support the teachers and students in the programs. Parents/guardians will be able to ask questions and the meeting will be recorded for future viewing (link will be on our website).
10/23 @ 6pm Churchill Information Night (MP Room)
10/29 @6pm Rapid Learner Information Night ***NEW*** (Deterding MP Room) This meeting will cover the admissions process and an overview of the program. For more information about specific sites, please see the dates for visitations (below). We encourage you to attend both this meeting and a visitation!
December Zoom for Churchill to Mira Loma Transition (date/time TBD) This zoom with admin and IB coordinators from both Churchill and Mira Loma will help parents understand the pathway of the Middle Years Program as it transitions to Mira Loma as well as the benefits for continuing with IB.
4/23 @ 4pm on Zoom (https://sanjuan.zoom.us/j/5838748667) This meeting will be a summary of the year with reports from each school and any updates on admissions and/or testing.

Rapid Learner

DPM:12/13 and 1/24 @ 9:30 am

Deterding:12/12 and 1/16 @ 8:30 am

Pershing:12/12 and 1/10 @ 9:30 am

Churchill Diplomat

*No need to make a reservation. This is a drop-in visit that will last approximately an hour.

11/19- 8:30am - 11:00am and 12:30pm - 1:30pm

11/20- 8:30am - 11:00am and 12:30pm - 1:30pm

Building Thinking Classrooms in Rapid Learner

Last spring, Rapid Learner teachers attended a training on Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC) in order to support critical thinking skills in math through student group work. BTC encourages student-owned math thinking and learning by holding all students in the group accountable for taking part in the discussion and exploration of the problem.
