Lanoka Harbor School Newsletter
May 2024

Dear Lanoka Families,
It sure is hard to realize that May is here! The staff at Lanoka is excited about all the activities, trips, and experiences that lie ahead in the short amount of time we have left in this school year. It has been memorable for sure, and there is still more to come.1st grade had an exciting field trip to the Cape May Zoo, 2nd grade is venturing to Jake’s Branch Park, 3rd grade will be going to Wells Mills County Park, the 4th grade will explore Monmouth Battlefield, and the 5th grade will be beaching it at Island Beach State Park.
Mixed in with all the fun and excitement, we also have some academic business to take care of. We began our required NJSLA testing on April 29th. We have great confidence in our students and are sure they will do their very best. It is important that the children go to bed early, have a good breakfast in the morning, and approach this assessment with excitement and no worries. Also, please do your best to ensure your child is in school during the testing dates and is on time in the morning.
Mrs. Kilmurray and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff for their OUTSTANDING efforts, not just in light of Teacher Appreciation Week, but for all they do throughout the year. We truly feel we have an exceptional group of teachers, paras, and support staff that make up our team. So … hats off to the LHS Staff and THANK YOU for all you do!
As we continue through this school year, just a reminder that every day is an opportunity for growth, every day is a blessing, and it’s always good to enjoy the time together.
Together we are better, and the Power is Always in The PRIDE!
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Brewer, Principal
Theresa Kilmurray, Supervisor

BAND CONCERT
Under the direction of Mrs. Meelheim and Mrs. Gauthier, the Lanoka Harbor School band students put on a wonderful concert which was enjoyed by staff, students, family and friends on April 14th and April 15th. Their outstanding performance shows how much hard work, practice, and dedication pay off!
DRAMA CLUB PRESENTS JUNGLE BOOK
On April 15th and April 16th, this year’s second-grade drama club presented, Jungle Book! Adapted for young performers from the beloved Disney film and the works of Rudyard Kipling, this musical included all the favorite Disney tunes, including "The Bare Necessities" and "I Wan'na Be Like You." With colorful characters and that toe-tapping jungle rhythm, the show was enjoyed by all in attendance.
All of our talented performers put on a fantastic show for family, friends, and students of Lanoka Harbor School. Under the direction of Mrs. Hans and Mrs. Ritacco, with costumes and stage decorations being created by our amazing parents, the show was a success!
A special thank you is extended to all who contributed their time and talent to this year’s production.
OCEAN COUNTY MATH LEAGUE CONTEST
On April 8th and April 9th, Lanoka Harbor School’s 4th and 5th grade Math Team completed the Ocean County Math League contest. The team answer sheets were forwarded to the Ocean County Math League to determine the County winners. Each team member should be proud of their perseverance in taking on this challenge. Congratulations, and good luck to our team!
LHS PROUD PAWS
The Lanoka Harbor School's Proud Paws Club recently held the Lucky Pets Photo Contest to celebrate household pets and share their love of animals with the Popcorn Park Zoo. Students and staff members who donated $5 were entered into a drawing to win a hand-painted portrait of their pet. Along with their entry, participants submitted adorable pictures of their pets to be displayed for all to see. The winner chosen at random was Westin Riker and his pet hen, Sunny! We are excited to report that $500 will be donated to the Zoo thanks to the generous support of our Lanoka Harbor School community!
CAREER DAY 2025
On Wednesday, April16th, Lanoka Harbor School celebrated its annual Career Day. The students and staff were treated to various presentations from individuals who volunteered to share information about their special careers. Approximately 40 presenters participated, providing a demonstration, hands-on activity, or another method to highlight their career choice to the students. A great big thank you goes out to all our Career Day visitors who took time from their busy schedules!
