Wow! It’s been a fantastic start to the school year! Our students are diving into class routines, having fun with both new and old friends, and giving their best on their schoolwork. It’s wonderful to see our school community coming together for an amazing year and working towards a positive vision. In August, our focus was on creating that positive vision, inspired by the Energy Bus. You can keep this conversation going at home by encouraging your child to think about what success means for them—today, next week, next month, and beyond. Help them picture their goals and understand that setting these goals can help pave the way to a bright future!

In September, we'll shift our focus to fueling our journey with positive energy. You can support this at home by talking to your children about how success in school comes from working hard and making good choices. Let them know that a positive attitude can also play a big role in their success. Ask them about what makes them happy and what makes them feel good about their school day. These conversations will help them infuse their 2024-2025 school year with positive energy!

Towards the end of September, students will also be introduced to their new read for One School One Book. Although we can't reveal what the title is yet, be prepared for some fantastic, page-turning reading and thought-provoking conversations at home!

Below is the schedule for recess/lunches for the 2024-2025 school year!

Grades 4-5, 2-3, and Kindergarten-1 go to recess before lunchtime.

*4th-5th grade = 11:05am to 11:45am

*2nd - 3rd grade = 11:30am to 12:10pm

*Kindergarten - 1st grade = 12:15pm to 1:00pm

2/3 and 3/4, as well as PLC go to lunch before recess.

*Multiage and PLC = 12:15pm to 12:55pm

Parents, a friendly reminder to please call the office on the days that your student will not be in school, OR if you child will be leaving early for an appointment, etc.

We highly encourage you to have a doctor's note faxed to the school office or have your child bring one into the office upon return from any type of appointment. The student's absence for that day will be exempted when a doctor's note is received.

For early pick up, please call the office when you arrive, or come into the school office. We will then send your child out the front doors to meet you at your vehicle or send with you.

GBR Fall picture day is scheduled for Friday, September 13, 2024! Be sure to wear your nicest outfit and best smile! Order forms will be sent home on Friday, September 6, 2024. You may also go online to place orders - see the flyer below for details!

Your student's teacher may have sent home information regarding your student needing certain supplies for class. These would include headphones, hang up bags, and planners.

If your student is still in need of any of these items, they may be purchased at the school office.

Headphones are $5.00

Planners are $3.00

Hang up bags are $2.00

GBR teachers will be scheduling Parent/Teacher conferences soon. Conferences will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 3:30pm - 9:00pm. Please watch for an email from your child's teacher a week or two prior to the conference date. You will then be able to schedule your conference time using Sign Up Genius.

If you do not receive an email from your child's teacher, please call the school office so we can have the teacher contact you to schedule a time.

Please note that our school does not keep any over-the-counter medications on hand. If your child needs to take any over-the-counter medication, please bring it in its original bottle or package to the school office. We will have you fill out a form, and the medication will be stored in the Nurse’s office. This includes allergy medications, cold and flu remedies, antacids, inhalers, and all prescription medications.

All medications—whether prescription or over-the-counter—must be administered through the office. Make sure the medication is in its original packaging. If you have any questions, please stop by to see Mrs. Snoozy, our school nurse, or call 605-995-3091 and ask for the nurse.

It's that time of year again where lice seem to magically appear. Along with the tips above, you can try these to help keep the little critters out of our lives.

• Keep long hair pulled back or braided.
• Use Rosemary spray as a preventative.
• Add several drops of Tea Tree Oil to shampoo and wash hair every other day as a preventative.
• If you do have lice in the household, you will have to pick each person's hair until there are no more nits or eggs left. This will have to be done daily for several days.

There will be artwork by Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary students at the SD State Fair in the Education Building! If you are attending the fair, please stop in and find the section showing artwork from Mitchell. The following students will have art shown:
