Hello Jefferson Leadership Academy (JLA) families and caregivers,

I hope you are enjoying the Jefferson Jewels newsletter; this will be one of the main ways we share what is happening on campus each week. This week, students will be taking their first i-Ready diagnosis of the year to support student goal-setting for the year. Additionally, our school picture day is Tuesday. Students will take their ID photo wearing their school uniform.

Here are a few details as you prepare for this week at JLA:

Regular Day Schedule- Monday- Friday 8:00-2:40
Gates Open: 7:25 AM (Breakfast available)
i-Ready testing- ELA- Tuesday all periods (except PE) and Math-Thursday all periods (except PE)
School Picture Day- Tuesday in PE - students must be in school uniform (not a free dress day)

Reminders

Uniform: Students should wear a sky blue or navy blue collared uniform shirt and Navy blue pants or blue jeans.
Cell Phones—Students should not have their phones out during school hours. Please help us by communicating through the main office rather than your child's cell phone.
Arrival and Dismissal to campus: All students are expected to be on campus by 7:50 AM and on time for their classes. Students are encouraged to exit the school at the back of the campus on Mira Mar, as there is less traffic.

Annual Vertification

It's time for annual verification. Please update your information in ParentVue using the QR code. This information supports our school funding and is needed to provide services for your students.

Canvas (Parent Observer)

Use the QR codes to ensure access to your student's classes and academic progress. The QR codes can be accessed using your smartphone. Our school staff uses Canvas for assignments and communication with students and families. So, checking Canvas will help you know what happens in your student's classes.

Dress for Success- JLA School Uniforms

Students must come to school in JLA uniform each day.

Students may wear the following options:

Tops: Baby blue or Navy Blue shirts with a collar. Jefferson Spirit Wear t-shirts can also be worn. Sweatshirts must be SOLID navy blue or baby blue. No graphics, photos, or prints, and No hoods

Bottoms: Blue jeans or navy uniform pants; Blue jean shorts or navy blue cargo shorts. No spandex, No cut-offs, rips, or tears

Students who do not follow the dress code will be required to call home for appropriate attire or change into loaner clothes. Families who need support with school uniforms can complete an application for uniforms through the Assistance League of Long Beach. See the main office for more information.

Heat Mitigation Strategies for Hot Weather

Last week, the temperature was hot. We used heat mitigation strategies to ensure students had access to classrooms with air conditioning. PE classes were moved inside on days with high temperatures, and students could access air-conditioned rooms during lunch. We kindly ask for your support in helping your child stay hydrated by sending them to school with water bottles and school-appropriate clothing.

i-Ready Diagnostic One

All students will participate in i-Ready Diagnostic One on September 10th for Reading and September 12th for Math. The i-Ready Diagnostic is a tool used to assess your child's current skill levels in Reading and Math, helping teachers tailor instruction to better meet their needs. It is crucial for teachers to have accurate data, so we kindly ask that all students be present and on time for these assessments. Your cooperation ensures that we can provide the best support for your child’s learning journey.

Picture Day is Coming!
