Sequoia Middle School
8th grade 2025 Promotion Newsletter
Attention Eighth Grade Students and Parents:
It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of your child’s middle school career. It is with much excitement that we recognize Sequoia students for completing the middle school level of their education. The information below includes important information about promotion and other promotion activities.
We believe it is important that parents and students are informed regarding CVUSD and Sequoia’s policies and standards for these activities. To be eligible to participate in the promotion ceremony and the promotional activities (the dance and the trip to Magic Mountain), students must satisfy all of the following requirements as was stated in the 8th grade contract. The contract is valid for the entire 8th grade school year.
Requirements to be met:
1. Students must have passed at least five or more classes each semester.
2. Students must have passed English and Math each semester.
3. Students may not be on the LOP (Loss of Privileges) list in their 8th grade year. This list is based on work habits and citizenship.
4. All assigned detentions and Saturday Work Studies must be served.
5. All library fines, cafeteria balances and/or school debts must be paid. This includes charges for damaged or lost textbooks/Chromebooks.
6. Students must not have been suspended during this school year or have had discipline infractions with substance abuse or substance abuse paraphernalia.
Students who have already lost promotion activity privileges for any of the reasons listed above have been or will be notified. We still have over 30 days of school left and the 8th grade contract must continue to be followed. Semester 2 grades (which will be available prior to the promotion ceremony) and behavior will be used for consideration in participating in all promotion activities.
Parents and students should understand that if a student has lost the privilege of attending the promotion ceremony or dance, the student will not be allowed on the campus during these activities.
Since many students begin planning early for promotion, we would like to remind you that this is a special milestone and to dress for the occasion at both the promotion ceremony and the promotion dance.
Promotion recommended attire:
We encourage all students to wear appropriate attire for this special occasion. Business casual attire (slacks, collared shirts, etc.) is recommended but not required.
