Annual Giving - Wisdom Lives in Light
We are excited to launch our Annual Giving Campaign with the goal of raising $115,000. This year’s theme, “Wisdom lives in light,” reflects the joy and inspiration we experience daily at the Siskiyou School. This campaign is crucial to bridging the gap between tuition revenue and the actual cost of education, which is about $1,000 per child. Your support ensures we can cover essential expenses like supplies, utilities, salaries, and professional development.
We rely on the generosity of our community to meet our financial goals, and we aim for 100% participation from all families, which strengthens our eligibility for grants. Contributions, whether large or small, are vital to sustaining the exceptional education at Siskiyou School.
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation before the year ends, to benefit from tax advantages and help our school continue to thrive. Together, we can ensure that the light of our school continues to shine brightly for all our children. Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication!
Food Drive begins next week!
The Siskiyou School has a tradition during this time of year, donating to the Ashland Food Bank. The food drive starts Tuesday, November 12 and will end on Tuesday morning, November 26. Students are asked to bring non-perishable food items: canned food, packaged food, and even personal hygiene and cleaning products. While our 5th grade, the Butterfly Class, spearheads the food collection and is responsible for delivering our gifts to the food bank, each classroom has a collection box.
What if every student brought us several items over the next weeks of the food drive? Let's make the season bright for those hungry in our community!
Looking for a Costume Closet Keeper
Do you like organizing and keeping things tidy? We're looking for a parent or two to take on the task of gatekeeper of our Costume Closet. The Costume Closet is a storage unit for the school that holds costumes, props, and set pieces. The keeper is the important individual(s) that makes sure it stays tidy and neat, checking in after each class play to return costumes to their proper place and making decisions on what pieces need to be kept for future plays and what things need to be let go. It's a big job, but very rewarding and important. If interested, please let Kristin know at kristin.beers@siskiyouschool.org. Thank you!
Traffic Tips!
A reminder to please come to pick up at the dismissal time for your oldest child! Having cars circling the parking lot (especially on Friday!) introduces unneeded congestion on Clay Street. We like to keep the roads as free moving as possible for our neighbors. Being a couple moments late and giving your child a chance to socialize with friends at the end of the day is just fine and helpful too! Thank you!
Dismissal Schedule:
Mondays through Thursdays
Kindergarten: 12:30
Class 1: 2:10 p.m.
Classes 2 through 4: 3:00
Classes 5 through 8: 3:10
Fridays
Kindergarten and Class 1: 12:20
Classes 2 through 4: 12:30
Classes 5 through 8: 12:45
Leaves for ACORN
The school garden has had a wonderful season of abundance!
The children are busy pulling out the dead plants and beginning to put the garden to bed. We plan on covering the bare topsoil with a thick blanket of leaves and mulch. If you happen to have a lot of leaves in your yard, could you please bag them up and bring them to school? You can just set them outside the garden gate.
Thank you so much, Ms. Leann
Forest Class - 8th Grade
The Forest Class welcomed the year to the sound of drums and whistles blaring with the story of American Revolution and the birth of a new, independent nation. Generations from the first European settlers, the colonists evolved into their own new identity, distinguished from their European roots. The new individualism has them look back to their mother country, question its assumed authority, and, with a strong resolution and sense for just cause, declare themselves Independent! ... And what a perfect story for the eighth grader.
The story of the founding of the Republic naturally led to learning about the Constitution, civics, and the structure of the federal government. The students prepared a debate questioning whether the original intention and values of the Constitution are upheld by the country today.
"And now for something completely different ..."
Moving from trusted fact to the whimsy and wisdom of fantasy, the eighth graders are now amid their play block, preparing William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. By their charisma and sense for imagination, the Forest Class is a natural fit for awakening the enchanted forest. At heart, the play block is a Language Arts block, enriching speech and vocabulary development. The opportunity to work together for the sake of a greater whole, however, is an equal joy to take part in.
Community members are welcome to see the preview of the play on November 21, with a fundraiser matinee Saturday, November 23. Come join the merriment!
Love and light, Miss Benson
Our community classifieds are posted as a service to our Siskiyou School families and our broader community. If you would like to include something in the classifieds, email your text (a few lines in length) or an image file (png or jpg only), to kristin.beers@siskiyouschool.org no later than Monday by 3:00 pm. We may edit it for space purposes. Classifieds are included for two weeks, require a break for a week, and then can be renewed upon request.
Chess Club Soft Opening!
Hello everyone. I hope you're all staying warm on these increasingly cold mornings and evenings. Due to many scheduling conflicts over the next month Chess Club can't officially begin on a weekly basis quite yet. But, I would like to offer it when space and time permits, this Friday, November 8th, being the first of those openings. This will allow the students to start getting back in the chess mindset, as well as help me begin to get an idea of how many students are interested this year. It will also give me a chance to get a better assessment of which students are really ready to listen, learn, and play chess. As great of a game as it is, some children aren't quite ready to sit to instruction and then stay engaged in playing games for the full hour plus. This year I want to be dedicating more time to the learning and instruction components, and not have to wear the disciplinary/baby-sitting hat quite as much. Please do not enroll your child in the chess program if they will be disruptive to the other students and require my attention for their behavior as opposed to teaching.
We will meet this Friday, November 8th, from 12:30 to 1:45 pm. We will gather in the Math Room to start, then move to Pine Hall for games. Please pack an extra snack/lunch for your child on that day.
Cost will be $10 per student per session. 2nd through 8th graders welcome. Please email me at dustin.monda@siskiyouschool.org if interested to enroll for Friday.
Thank you, Dustin Monda
