Our New Director of Special Education

Dear Bedford Central Community,
We are pleased to announce that Mr. Orville Ingram is our new Director of Special Education! The Board of Education appointed Mr. Ingram this evening. His first day in the District will be August 7, 2017.
A district-wide committee consisting of parents, support staff, teachers and administrators conducted interviews with four qualified applicants. Three semi-finalists participated in a performance component and were interviewed by representatives from the administrative team. Mr. Ingram emerged as the finalist in this process for his professional experience and deep understanding of Special Education instruction, laws and practices.
Mr. Ingram comes to Bedford Central from the New York City school system, where he has been the Senior Administrator of Special Education with the Borough Field Support Center. Previously he served as a Supervisor for Special Education at the Richard R. Green High School for Teaching, Bronx and as Assistant Principal in the Bronx Lab School. Mr. Ingram served as a Special Education teacher at the Queens High School of Teaching in Queens, NY. As a teacher, he also served as a key leader and facilitator of professional development as the Achievement Coach of Special Education with the Children First Network, where he facilitated professional learning communities to support schools in providing high-quality education via rigorous professional development.
Mr. Ingram earned an Associate’s Degree in Communication from the Borough of Manhattan Community College/CUNY; a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Florida International University; a Master’s of Science in Education (Special Education) from Pace University in New York City; he earned a Master’s of Education in Supervision and Administration from Bank Street College in New York City. Mr. Ingram holds New York State Certification in Special Education and Middle Child Education; and School Building Leader (administrative) certification. His New York State Certification as a School District Leader is pending.
