A message from the principal...
Huggins Community,
We have had a fantastic first full week back at school! Our third through fifth graders successfully completed their reading benchmarks, and yesterday, our fifth graders took their science benchmarks. We are so proud of their hard work and effort, and will be using the data to develop targeted plans to ensure our students are ready for the next grade level and beyond!
Today, we wrapped up the week with our January House Pep Rally—congratulations to Blue House for earning the most house points! We also recognized our Golden Paw recipients, including our wonderful parent volunteer, Ms. Lindsey Ring. A huge congratulations to our Teacher of the Year, Ms. Esther Higgins, and our Support Staff Member of the Year, Ms. Marisa Caldwell! We also want to celebrate our amazing finalists: Ms. Brittany Adams, Ms. Alyssa Jucker, and Ms. Amanda Roberts for Teacher of the Year, and Ms. Jill Richardson and Ms. Alyson Sloan for Support Staff Member of the Year.
Monday, February 3rd, is the 100th Day of School! We encourage everyone to dress for the occasion—students can wear shirts that represent the day or have fun dressing up like they are 100 years old!
We will also celebrate our incredible counselors, Ms. Terry and Ms. Krenek, in honor of National School Counseling Week—please help us shower them with appreciation!
Please remember that we are a closed campus on Tuesday for 3rd and 5th grade math benchmarks and on Wednesday for the 4th grade math benchmark.
On Friday, February 7th, our fourth graders will begin swim practice (classroom teachers will provide more details).
And don’t forget—on Friday, we encourage everyone to wear RED in support of heart disease awareness and congenital heart disease.
Thank you for your continued support, and we hope you have a wonderful weekend enjoying the beautiful weather!
Sincerely,
Bethany Cunningham

Rezoning
The Lamar CISD Board of Trustees approved new secondary campus zones for the 2025-2026 school year, and I am writing to inform you of some important changes that may affect your child’s campus assignment starting in the 2025-2026 academic year if they are currently in grades 5 - 11.
To determine if you and your family will be impacted by the rezoning, please follow the steps below.
· Go to the Lamar CISD website – www.lcisd.org
· At the top of the page, click on “Find My School”
· Using the dropdown arrow next to “School Year 2024-25”, select “School Year 2025-26”
· Begin entering your home address in the search bar
Once you see your address, click on that address
· On the left-hand side of the site, you will see the elementary, middle school, junior high school, and high school that your home is zoned for in Lamar CISD
For further information, please see the attached FAQ document that provides more specific information about the updated school zones for 2025-2026.
Should you have any immediate questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Department of Enrollment Management directly at 832-223-0424. You can also reach out to me if you have any questions as well. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

🚗 Huggins Elementary Car Rider Procedures 🚗
The safety of your children is our top priority, and adhering to our established car rider procedures helps us maintain a smooth and organized process during drop-off and pick-up times. Here are a few key points to remember:
- Turn Right into the Huggins Car Rider Driveway: The entrance to our car rider line is off of Katy-Fulshear Road. To get in line, you must be heading south on Katy-Fulshear. Cars are not permitted to make a left-hand turn into the driveway.
- Stay in Line: When entering the Huggins driveway for drop-off or pick-up, please stay in a single file line. This helps avoid any congestion and ensures a steady flow of traffic. Do not pull off and attempt to pass cars in line, as this creates a safety hazard.
- Follow Staff Instructions: Our staff members are trained to guide and assist during drop-off and pick-up times. Please follow their instructions promptly and patiently. Their guidance is aimed in creating a safe environment for everyone.
- No Cell Phones: While in the car rider line, please refrain from using your cell phone. This allows you to remain focused on the line and surrounding area, helping to ensure a safe environment for our students and staff.
- Arrival and Dismissal Times: It's important to arrive at the designated times for drop-off and pick-up. Remember, our doors open at 7:15am. Staff will begin opening doors at that time. Please do not drop off your student before 7:15am. Students that arrive after 7:45 will be counted tardy. If you arrive to school after the start time and there is no longer line or staff outside, you will need to park and walk your child into the building to check-in and receive a tardy slip. Please note that all change of transportation changes must be made before 2:00pm. In the event you need to pick up your child early, please do so by 2:30pm.
- Car Rider Tags: You must have a 24-25 car rider tag hanging from your rearview mirror to pick up your student in the car rider line. In the event that you do not have your tag, you will need to park in the lot and go to the office. Your child will be released to you with proper ID and after the car rider line is cleared.
By adhering to these procedures, we can collectively create a safe and efficient car rider process. We greatly appreciate your cooperation, understanding, and patience...especially the first few weeks of school!
