Volume 2, Week 13
As we turn the corner on this fall break, I want to take this opportunity to extend my most sincere gratitude for your continued trust in our team here at Holmes School. It's been an already very exciting year, and we are seeing so much academic and social emotional growth in all of our children. We recognize that your children are your most valuable asset, and we value you as their first teacher.
I hope that you are able to spend some much needed time together this coming week, and with any luck, maybe sleep in past the alarm a morning or two. I look forward to our continued and collective work, and can't wait to see all children back in the building on Monday, November 27th at 8:00am.

Parent - Teacher Conferences
We look forward to seeing all of our families in for Parent-Teacher conferences on Monday, November 21st (1:00-8:00pm) and Tuesday November 22nd (8:00-3:00pm).
If you wish to make changes or did not have an opportunity to sign up through our conference scheduler, but wish to join us, please send a note to your child's classroom teacher right away. We will not be able to make any changes to the conference schedule through the main office.
Families need only sign up for a conference with Specials Teachers if they have concerns. If you have already signed up, please see Seesaw for the specials teachers virtual conference links.
Scholastic Book Fair
And, while you're here for conferences, be sure to stop in our Scholastic Book Fair.
All students will be able to shop the book fair during Library Book Checkout times the week of Nov. 27th-Dec. 1st. Last year, the E-Wallet was a huge success for families and students to remove the obstacle of our young students carrying money around at school. Parents are able to setup the EWallet to allow our children the independence to shop for their own books during their book checkout time.
Please watch this short video https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/content/fairs/videos/intro-to-ewallet-fair-files.html and set yours up today on our site: www.scholastic.com/bf/holmes
Nurse's Corner
We believe outdoor recess is an important and valuable part of our students’ day. Fresh air, exercise and time spent outside afford students a break from the structure of the classroom. Most importantly, teachers agree students perform best at school when they have an opportunity for vigorous outdoor play, so we try to get them out whenever possible. As we begin to get into the colder months, we want to remind parents/guardians that unless conditions are unsafe, we will continue to have outdoor recess. We encourage parents to send their children with gloves, hats, scarves and jackets to be prepared for being outside in the cold weather.
There will be times when it is not safe for children to be outdoors, or for outdoor time to be limited. Factors considered in determining outdoor safety are:
Temperature/Wind Chill: when temperatures fall below 13 degrees, including wind chill, children will be inside.
Precipitation: rain, hail, snow, freezing rain
Length of time outdoors
Playground conditions
Medical reasons (doctor’s notes with restrictions)
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the school.
Thank you for your cooperation,
