Program Budgeting Workshop
March 19 2015
Objective
The objective of the workshop is to learn how to design a budgetary process that is connected to the programs that the school offers, in order to address one of the main challenges identified in the school's strategic plan. The workshop will use two methodologies: Design Thinking-brain storming and Logical Framework Approach.
What is Design Thinking-brainstorming?
Design Thinking is a process which includes the "building up" of ideas, with few, or no, limits on breadth during a "brainstorming" phase. Design Thinking for educators refers to a creative process that helps teachers to design meaningful solutions in the classroom, school and community.
In order to think outside the box it is important to take into account:
1. Do not fear of looking foolish
2. Do not evaluate others and your own ideas instantaneously. Freewheeling!
3. There is no right answers to the problem
4. Have as many ideas as possible
5. Record all ideas
What is the Logical Framework Approach?
The Logical Framework Approach (LFA) is a management tool used for improving the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs, by providing a way of structuring the main elements in a program and highlighting the logical linkages between them. This tool was developed in 1969 for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and since then it was been widely used by multiple organizations.
Problem Tree Analysis
1. Define Problem
2. Transform Problem Into General Objective
3. Define Specific Objectives
Third, we define the Specific Objectives, which correspond to the specific quantifiable results of the program that will lead to the fulfillment of the General Objective. The Specific Objectives emerge from transforming the causes of the problem into positive statements.
4. Define Activities and Results
Finally, we define the activities and results that the program will deliver, aiming to transform the negative effects into desired effects.
