Beverly Cleary Connection

A Note from Principal Presley
Wow! These four day weeks really seem to soar by, and we have another one next week, too. Couple that with an election day, and it was surely a different type of week. Thankfully, we welcomed students into quarter two on Wednesday with a schoolwide assembly on empathy facilitated by our wonderful Cougar Reps! What better way to start the day following an election than in community together learning more about empathy.
Another way we welcomed in quarter two is with goal setting in middle school. Many of our K-5 classrooms have already done this with students using their MAP data, but middle school classrooms took a deep dive into their data to create goals during advisory. I was fortunate enough to be in a 7th grade class during this time (shout out to Mr. Hamler), and it melted my heart to hear students talking about where they are currently, analyzing their readiness for high school and college, and setting goals with action steps for the next MAP assessment this Winter. They should be bringing their MAP reports home, so be on the lookout for them! Their data can also be found in Parent Vue if you're interested in seeing it there.
This week, our school also participated in a Fidelity Implementation Tool Assessment- a fancy term for assessing the multi-tiered systems we have to support behavior and academics. The goal is to use the data (57 indicators) to determine high leverage next steps we can make to support growth as a community of learners.
Today, we hosted our monthly Coffee Talk (always the second Friday of the month @ 9:00 AM). If you were unable to make it, feel free to click here for a recap of what was discussed. Today, you should be able to view student report cards on Parent Vue. If you need support in accessing it, click here.
On Monday (November 11), we pause to reflect and honor the brave people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Their sacrifices, dedication, and courage have shaped the freedoms we enjoy today, and we are deeply grateful for their service.
Next week Wednesday is another fun PTA Sponsored fundraiser. Join us at Sweet Basil Thai between 4:30 - 8:30 (also available from 10 - midnight) for some delicious dinner for a good cause! Click here to learn more about the fundraiser.
I hope you enjoy this long weekend! My plan is to watch my husband's football team tonight again Central Catholic. Driving to Hillsboro doesn't sound super fun (probably because I don't know anything outside of my small Portland radius), but watching PPS students take on a very good team in football sure does! I'm sure football will continue through the weekend with the Duck's on Saturday afternoon, too. I'm going out on a limb, though, and can hopefully drag my husband hiking (we'll see if I'm successful). at some point this weekend, too! Whatever it is your family is doing, I hope you enjoy it!
