February Newsletter
February is a short but busy month with lots to recognize and celebrate with Black History Month, Valentine's Day, 100th day of school, Family Day, and Pink Shirt Day. Thank you to the families that were able to join us for parent teacher interviews last week. It is always nice to celebrate the successes of your children and set goals for the next term. The School Council and PTA are hosting a Family Bingo on February 21st (more information below) and they will have their next meeting on February 24th at 6:00 p.m. in the library. We hope you are able to join us.

It's time to register for 2025-2026!
Whether you are new to EIPS or you are a returning student, it is time for you to register for next year. Follow the links below register a kindergarten student or complete the returning student registration process.
Kindergarten Registration is Now Open!
Is your child turning five on or before Dec. 31, 2025? If so, it’s now time to register for kindergarten. To register, simply complete the online registration form at eips.ca/kindergarten. To help families prepare, Elk Island Public Schools has put together an online EIPS Kindergarten Tool kit to make the transition as smooth as possible. The kit includes information on registration, important dates, programming options, what to expect, eligibility, how to find your designated school, transportation and more.
New for the 2025-26 school year, EIPS is piloting three full-day, every-day kindergarten programs. If interested, families can register their children for these programs until February 28. Learn more
Additional information regarding Win Ferguson School’s kindergarten program is available at https://www.winferguson.ca/.
Complete your Returning Student Registration: February 10-24
Elk Island Public Schools’ (EIPS) returning student registration process is now open. All current students, except Grade 12, must complete the online Returning Student Registration Form to confirm their enrolment in a school and program for the upcoming 2025-26 school year. Additionally, students who want to attend a non-designated school or program need to make that request through the returning student registration process—acceptance is based on available space. All current EIPS students are required to complete the form by Feb. 24, 2025.
To complete your child’s returning student registration, refer to the Returning Student Registration Form email you received from Elk Island Public Schools through Permission Click on February 10. Families will receive one email for each student. No log in is required to complete the form.
For more information, contact the school directly.
Jamuary Winners!
We read 52 851 minutes and won the Jamuary Reading Challenge! The trophy is now in our library and the Fort Saskatchewan Food Bank received a $500 donation for much needed jam. Thank you to everyone who read and tracked minutes...congratulations Win Ferguson!
Black History Month
Classes are enjoying presentations and experiences this month with Mr. Stennie Noel and his drums, Ms. Lana Santana and making Kente cloth, and Mr. Tololwa Mollel, author and storyteller.
We are grateful for a grant received by the Fort Saskatchewan Multicultural Association that makes these experiences possible for students.
On Friday, February 21st, the PTA is hosting a Family Bingo Night at the school! Doors open at 5:45PM, with games running from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Entry is by Food Bank donation. Thank you for your support! Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Food Bank Drive
The Fort Saskatchewan Youth Council is looking for our help! They are hosting a Food Bank Drive for the month of February to re-stock the many items the food bank is in need of after the holiday season. The challenge is to bring in the most food for the food bank, based on weight. Let's support this act of love for our community!

b and d Reversal Practice at Home
A common misconception about reading is that letter reversals are a sign of dyslexia. Did you know that b and d reversals can be changed with practice drills? Here is a link to show how you can practice this at home to help you child "re-wire" their brain to eliminate reversals

School Fees for 2025-26
Parent/Caregiver Feedback Needed
The proposed school fees were presented to School Council at the January meeting and are included here for parent/caregiver feedback.
The Board of Trustees for Elk Island Public Schools has capped increases to school fees at two percent for next year. The exception to this increase we will apply for is the grades 3-6 ski trip due to increasing costs at the hill and for bussing.
Glance over the fees below and register your feedback on this short survey. Responses will be considered and shared at the February School Council meeting with our final school fees proposal. We'll also enter survey respondents' names in for a random prize draw. Survey responses are due by noon on February 22.
Did you know?
The next municipal election is on Oct. 20, 2025—an important component of this is the election of school trustees. Trustees are elected representatives who are knowledgeable about the communities they serve, and are accountable to students, families, staff and community members of a school division. Once sworn in, these individuals work diligently to promote and advocate for a strong public education system. Learn more

Bus Lane Safety Reminders for Parents & Caregivers
A reminder to all families that the designated bus lane in front of the school is for school buses only. If parents, grandparents, or caregivers need to drop off a student in the morning, pull into the parking lot to drop off safely.
Children are crossing the bus lane to get to their entrance doors with hoods up during cold temperatures and are not necessarily watching for vehicles other than large, slower moving buses.
