MathCon Mathematics Competition
This Bobcat's impressive math scores put him on top of all other OMSD students this year and on course for a possible run at the national stage of mathematics excellence. Scoring in the 94th percentile, Dean Cozad is in the top spot in OMSD, and one of only 5 students this year who has a chance to go on and compete in the finals of Mathcon.
MathCON is a national mathematics competition slated for April 30, 2022 where only students who score in the top 90th percentile of all 4th-12th grade students move on to the finals. Since 2008, more than 200,000 students across the country have participated.
Congratulations and good luck Dean!
Teen Voices for our Community Student Panel
Jasmine and Marcus represented Edison in the "Teen Voices For Our Community" student panel. Students had a chance to ask law enforcement from Ontario PD, Montclair PD, and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department questions about what they do and how they help the community. This was a great opportunity for middle school students to connect with law enforcement in their own community, share their thoughts on what matters most to them and gain an appreciation for all they do.
Fire Drill March 30
We hold drills throughout the year (Earthquake, Fire, Lockdown, Cardiac Emergency) to review what steps we should take in the event of an actual emergency. We ask parents to support us by:
updating contact phone numbers on file with the office.
waiting for an emergency text message regarding either the continuation of the school day or the need for pick up after an emergency at school (North Sultana Gate)
not calling the office after a large emergency as we will most likely be outdoors or not answering phones during or directly following an emergency.
Schoolwide Expectations: PBIS Rewards
PBIS Rewards is a program used school-wide to reinforce positive behavior. Staff are able to reward students with points for demonstrating appropriate behavior focused on Respect, Responsibility, Honesty and Integrity. Students are able to redeem these points in raffles and through the school-wide store "The Bobcat Shop". Many teachers also use their own stores to reward students as well.
If you are interested in donating new items for students to win or purchase with their points, please contact Ms. Espinoza, Student Mentor, at (909) 984-5618 or victoria.espinoza@omsd.net
COVID-19 Guidelines
While California Department of Public Health (CDPH) strongly recommends that individuals continue to wear face coverings in indoor settings, the choice to mask is at the discretion of each student, employee, and family.
We will continue to implement the remaining layered mitigation strategies including:
staying home when sick
hand washing
air filtration
group contact tracing
antigen and pcr testing
quarantine
daily disinfecting and cleaning
Additionally, CDC recommends that everyone 5 years and older protect themselves from COVID-19 by getting vaccinated. Everyone ages 12 years and older should stay up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines and get a booster shot when eligible. Please consult with your primary care physician.
You can find more details in OMSD's School Reopening and Safety Plan.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Focus: Relationship Building and Teamwork
During the month of March, your child’s SEL instruction will dive deeper into Relationship Skills through relationship building and teamwork. Students will learn how to establish and maintain healthy relationships with diverse individuals and groups, and how to accomplish a common goal within a team through individual roles and responsibilities.
Students Presenting Symptoms at Home -- Please Contact Our Health Office
In an effort to maintain a healthy school environment and to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we ask that all parents screen their child for COVID-19 symptoms each morning before they send them to school, and keep them at home if they are sick using our Student Symptom Decision Tree.
This shared responsibility is critical to our ability to keep everyone safe, healthy and attending in person each day.
Please report your child’s illness with details of all symptoms to our health office at 909-984-5618. Our Health Office will follow up on all students that are at home with COVID-19 symptoms.
