Deer Valley’s House System is an idea adopted from The Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. The House System provides students with the opportunity to connect with students, teachers and staff members across classes and grade levels with whom they may not normally interact. This system also helps students gain more friendships and personal connections with faculty and staff, and it creates a family-like culture in our school. Deer Valley’s House System creates an atmosphere of excitement, engagement, belonging, leadership, and a collaborative spirit that is like nothing we’ve experienced before!
For the first time since its 2017 inception, ALL students (PK-5), faculty and staff members are members of a specific house and this will remain their house for the entirety of their Deer Valley life!!
The House System is based on Deer Valley’s Six Core Values. These core values represent what we believe and hope to live out as a school family. Each house name has a special meaning and represents different languages represented within our school family:
Houses are an integral part of daily life in our school. Using Class Dojo, points are given by adults who notice students/classes exhibiting any of the characteristics the houses represent. Additionally, students/classes can be recognized for demonstrating Deer Valley’s PAWS procedures (P-Positive Attitude, A-Act Responsibly, W-Work Hard, S-Stay Safe). Each Friday we announce the “House Standings” and challenge students to continue representing the Core Values.
An additional piece of the house system involves fourth and fifth grade students! These students attend House Meetings where they have the opportunity to compete in challenges, community service projects, and more! At the conclusion of individual house meetings we gather together to dance, share important house information, and participate in community building activities. House Meeting Dates: September 13, October 25, November 22, January 31, February 28, May 16 (Dates subject to change.)
While PK-Third Grade* students will not attend house meetings, we encourage them to participate in “Family Fridays” on house meeting days by wearing their house color! As demonstrated by the pictures above, students believe in truly representing their house! If you are unsure of your child’s house, please reach out to his/her classroom teacher!
*Occasionally third grade students are invited to visit during house meetings!
At the end of the year, the house garnering the most house points will be recognized as House Champion and those students (PK-5) are celebrated with a Foam Party!!
The House System has made a huge difference here at Deer Valley, and we are excited to see how it continues to shape our future.

"Extra Special" Series
Deer Valley is excited to invite you to participate in our “Extra Special” series this year. Every two weeks third, fourth and fifth grade students will have an opportunity to engage with leaders within our school and community under the direction of Ms. Stokes and Mrs. Elmore. We believe that strong partnerships between home, school and community are essential to the success of our students.
Your insights and experiences can provide valuable perspectives for our students. We would love for you to share your knowledge on a topic that you are passionate about. We've met with students over the past few days and their interested topics range from archaeology to gymnastics to technology innovation! We hope to offer a variety of topics over the course of the school year.
Please let us know if you are interested in presenting by completing the form below and what topic you would like to discuss. We will work with you to schedule a time this school year that is convenient for both you and our students. These sessions take place on Thursday and Friday mornings from 7:50-10:50 and include six 30 minute sessions.
Thank you for your continued support of our school! We look forward to hearing from you!

Many Hoover families benefit from several of our local family outreach programs. One of our community partners, Hoover Helps, assists by providing food through our Backpack Food Program. This program provides nutritious, non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food for students who sign up for the program. Every week, we discreetly place a small bag of food in each participating student’s backpack. This is a great way to add a little extra food to your pantry!
