Bomber News
2024 November Edition
Message from Principal Rowell
We are extremely proud of the tremendous accomplishments of our students in academics, athletics and activities this fall. We are definitely proud Blue Bombers!
As we start the second quarter we want to remind families to access the Parent Portal in Skyward to keep informed about how their child is doing, specifically related to their assignments, grades and attendance. Parents can also see what their child is working on in their Google Classrooms and what assignments are listed with their due dates. Students are encouraged to maintain open lines of communication with their teachers and to advocate for themselves. We encourage students to start this second quarter well so that they can finish the semester strongly.
Feel free to reach out to our school counselors, school nurse, attendance office, activities/athletic director or myself if we can be of any assistance to you and your child(ren). Our team is eager to support.
Regards,
Natasha Rowell, Principal

BOOK DISCUSSION
The Anxious Generation - Jonathan Haidt
Thank you to Dr. Harms, our KPS Medical Advisor, and Tarra Mikolyzk for coordinating and facilitating a book discussion around the book titled, The Anxious Generation authored by Jonathan Haidt. The discussion was highly informative and centered around a topic that is of high interest and importance to families and our school community.
We thank our families who were able to attend the book discussion. Enough interest has been generated so Dr. Harms will continue the discussion and another meeting time will be scheduled in January. Stay Tuned!

COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY
Wednesday, November 27
All MS and HS students will be participating in the Kohler School District Service Day. Local community organizations have shared some needs and we are participating in a variety of service projects to assist them.
Families are asked to please complete the digital permission slip and return it to Ms. Nevers by Friday, November 15, 2024. If the form is not returned, your child will be placed with a group remaining at school.
FALL FOLLIES - KOHLER SCHOOL FOUNDATION (KSF)
Thank you to the KSF for organizing a wonderful event. The night was well attended and enjoyed by many community members and school staff.
We are appreciative to the community for their continued support of our school district.
LANYARDS and STUDENT ID's
All Middle School students are required to wear their lanyard and student ID every day. To date, students have been doing well following this expectation. Students are definitely making a concerted effort and we appreciate the family support in helping them to remember and meeting this goal.
We collected data during Quarter 1 and overall, the data has been very positive. The count starts over at the beginning of each quarter; which means students have 2 chances to forget and the third time there is a lunch consequence. During this time, we discuss the challenges and a plan to help them remember their items in the morning .
We will continue to monitor how well students are doing as we gather data through the semester.
MS MATH TEAM
Congratulations to our MS Math Team One who placed 3rd at the Math meet last night at Lakeland University. We are so proud of you!
Three students received medals: Anna Li, Emmit Hoell and William Wu
WORK PERMITS
The Department of Workforce Development's Equal Rights Division has developed a new online work permit application tool that is available to the parents of minors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any computer, tablet, smartphone, or similar device.
A parent can access the site using these instructions. Payment is made directly to the department through the application, using a credit or debit card or by ACH direct withdrawal. Once the permit application process is complete, a paper copy of the permit will be directly mailed to the employer.
6th GRADE
Day of the Dead
The past two weeks, our 6th grade class learned about Day of the Dead and compared this holiday to Halloween.
We made paper plate skulls, papel picado (tissue paper decorations), and we put up an ofrenda honoring the dead in the flex space hallway. They also did a Day of the Dead competition that highlighted several traditions of the holiday.
The kids really enjoyed learning about the holiday and we had a party where the students were able to try Pan de Muertos (Dead Bread) that is traditionally found on ofrendas.

Winter Season is Here
What a fall season it was! Three of our fall sports made it to state. Tennis played very well in a tough team state competition and nearly missed making it to the state final game. Cross country boys and girls won state!
As I write this the KLF swim and dive team is preparing for the state competition and will be competing November 16th. That event will conclude one of the most memorable fall sports seasons in a long time.
The winter season has already begun with the girls basketball season starting November 11th, and the boys season starts on November 18th. We also co-op in boys swim and dive, and boys and girls hockey and those seasons will also be starting up in the next few weeks.
Best of luck to all of the sports teams this winter!
Celebrating Joe - A Legendary Tribute
On November 26, 2024, during the boys basketball game against Sheboygan Falls, we will be celebrating Joe Wolf's life. This will be a legendary tribute to Joe, and will include special promotions, giveaways, and a celebration program following the JV game.
We anticipate this being a sold out event. Presale ticket sales have begun and can be purchased in the main office. Credit card, cash, and checks is accepted.
Cross Country State Champions!
Congratulations to the girls Kohler Cross Country team for winning the D3 cross country championship, and congratulations to the boys team for winning the D2 championship. This is the first time in school history the girls have won, and the first time since 1982 that both the girls and boys teams won a joint state championship in a sport. Great job to the student athletes and coaches!
KLF Swim Team Qualifies for State
Post written by Coach Ott, November 10:
What an amazing sectional weekend! Wow! Divers kicked off the meet with amazing dives and a 2nd (Brooke Arnoldi), 3rd (Emily Loest), and 4th (Mia Stolle) place finish. The girls earned the team 48 points and all three qualified for state. Each diver also PR'd on top of all the already amazing results of the night.
Swim continued on Saturday! The girls kicked off the meet with a 1st place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (Nora Williams, Meghan Spence, Annie Devine, Claire Brotz). The meet continued on an absolutely fabulous note! Nora Williams took 4th place in her 200 freestyle. Meghan Spence and Abbey Janssen continued the podium races with a 4th and 6th place finish. Then Annie Devine won her 100 fly. Claire Brotz and Abbey Janssen then took the podium in their 100 freestyle in 3rd and 6th place. Nora Williams CRUSHED her PR (and Team Record) for a 2nd place finish in her 500 freestyle. Then our 200 freestyle relay team raced hard for a 2nd place finish (Meghan Spence, Abbey Janssen, Claire Brotz, Annie Devine). Evie Devine made the podium in her 100 backstroke with another PR. Meghan Spence hit a huge PR with a 2nd place finish in her 100 breaststroke. At this point in the meet there was one race left and KLF was only ahead by 2 points. The girls left EVERYTHING they had in the pool to drop their time by 7 seconds and absolutely give it their all! The 400 freestyle relay (Nora Williams, Abbey Janssen, Claire Brotz, Annie Devine) came in 2nd place and ultimately won the sectional meet!
This has not been done before in KLF history aside from a weird COVID season when girls swim was disjointed and changed. The coaches could not be prouder of this amazing team and their accomplishments this weekend! The girls will compete on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Waukesha South for D2 Swim and Dive State.

7th & 8th Grade: Upcoming Field Trip to Lambeau Field - Green and Gold Career Day
I’m excited to share that our 7th and 8th graders will be taking a field trip to Lambeau Field on Thursday, November 14, for the Green and Gold Career Day hosted by the Green Bay Packers. This event is an excellent opportunity for our students to explore various career paths within the professional sports industry.
Key points about the Green and Gold Career Day include:
Focus on Sports Careers: Students will be exposed to potential jobs in professional sports, including marketing, hospitality, operations, and more within the Packers organization.
Packers Staff Involvement: Staff members from various departments will present information about their roles and career paths.
Stadium Tours: The trip will often include tours of Lambeau Field, providing students with a firsthand look at this iconic venue.
Educational Opportunity: This event is designed to help students understand the different aspects of working in professional sports and the skills that may be needed.
I look forward to working with your students to make this experience memorable for everyone!
Green and Gold Career Day Event Schedule
6th Grade: Students are doing a fantastic job in Study Skills Class, and I am proud of their progress.
Recently, we have covered important topics such as Email Etiquette and Following Directions. You can view the Professional Email Elements students learned in the attached document.
As always, I am available to all middle school students for a chat. I am here to support them with any social-emotional issues, academic struggles, or discussions about their future plans.
Please let me know if there is any way I can assist you and your students. Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
With joy,
Mrs. O’Connor
FROM THE DESK OF NURSE NICOLE
Greetings Kohler Families! As we enter into the fun holiday season, here are a few friendly reminders to help keep our students safe while in school. There will be many holiday parties, so homemade treats and items will be present in the classroom setting. Due to food allergies, please be aware of the ingredients you are sending in with your child. If you are providing a shared item, please label your item with what ingredients are present. This will ensure that students with food allergies are safe. Below is helpful information on food allergies to keep all students safe in school.
General Questions:
1) What is a food allergy? A food allergy is an adverse immune system reaction that occurs soon after exposure to a certain food. The immune response can be severe and life threatening. Although the immune system normally protects people from germs, in people with food allergies, the immune system mistakenly responds to food as if it were harmful.
2) What are symptoms of an allergic reaction to food? Even a tiny amount of the allergy-causing food can trigger signs and symptoms such as digestive problems, hives or swollen airways. In some people, a food allergy can cause severe symptoms or even a life-threatening reaction known as anaphylaxis.
3) What is anaphylaxis? Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and may cause death. Not all allergic reactions will develop into anaphylaxis. In fact, most are mild and resolve without problems. However, early signs of anaphylaxis can resemble a mild allergic reaction. Unless obvious symptoms—such as throat hoarseness or swelling, persistent wheezing, or fainting or low blood pressure—are present, it is not easy to predict whether these initial, mild symptoms will progress to become an anaphylactic reaction that can result in death. Therefore, all children with known or suspected ingestion of a food allergen and the appearance of symptoms consistent with an allergic reaction must be closely monitored and possibly treated for early signs of anaphylaxis.
YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP / INTERNSHIP
Kohler presently has five students participating in the Youth Apprenticeship (YA) program. Both juniors and seniors are engaged with various employers to acquire skills that will assist them in achieving their future career aspirations.
In addition to receiving compensation for their work, students are also earning high school credits. Some of the career pathways accessible to students encompass Health Sciences, STEM, Marketing, Business Management & Human Resources, Finance, and Information Technology, among others.
For those interested in obtaining further information about the YA program, please contact the school based coach, Angela Heinz, at aheinz@cesa7.org.

Parents of JK– 10th graders: Rosa Hartman and Shannon Bullard need 6 parents to step forward
to take on roles for next year. It is urgent that we identify these leaders by November 20, 2024, in order to be able to have Craft Fair next year.
We need: 2-3 Co-leads of the event, 1-2 Facilities coordinators and 1-2 Raffles coordinators. Please contact Shannon Bullard at 920-627-2092 or shannon@bullardsmiles.com.
To continue this time honored tradition, we really need 6 parents to step up to serve on one of the following committees: facilities, raffles, café, vendors, volunteers, and finance.
Please call Shannon Bullard at 920-627-2092 to help. It would require attending 2 meetings and helping on 1 shift on the day of the event. This way we have more than 1 person who knows how a committee functions.
