Halloween At Weston
Weston,
We are three weeks away from Halloween. In preparation, I want to share some logistics for October 31, 2024.
Students are to wear their costumes to school. No costumes should be carried to school or put on in school.
Students need to be able to use the bathroom independently in their costumes with the exception of preschool.
Costumes must be school and age-appropriate.
No mask or weapons.
In lieu of the PTA-sponsored Trunk or Treat which was held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 12:00-2:00 PM, where parents will be able to celebrate with their children, see them in their costumes, and partake in the Trunk or Treat event, only class parents will be permitted in the building on Halloween to support the classroom teacher with a craft and class party which will start at 2:00 P.M. However, you are more than welcome to send in a snack to share with your class. We will as a school provide; snacks; pretzels and/or Scooby snacks, and water for Halloween that will be provided to each homeroom by Aramark Food Services.
This year Weston will have a costume parade within the confines of the school field. Parents are to line up on the inside of the fence. The parade will start at 9:30. Each class will be identified by a teacher pumpkin sign. Classes will walk two laps on the inside of the fence in a circular motion Also, we will have our Haunted House in the gymnasium created by Mr. Sperduto starting at 10:30. Teachers will receive a schedule prior to Halloween.
In addition, we will have Weston's annual StoryBook Pumpkin Contest. Pumpkins must be submitted no later than Friday, October 25, 2024. You will receive handouts in your student's Friday folder on October 11, 2024. Winners will be announced on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Please see attached the contest form.
As a reminder, we do understand that there are students who do not celebrate Halloween therefore alternative assignments will be created for those students who do come to school on this day.
Enjoy your evening,
Mrs. Eason

Attendance
Weston,
As we begin another wonderful school year, I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of regular school attendance, especially during these foundational elementary years. Every day of school is a valuable opportunity for your child to learn, grow, and thrive. In Preschool, kindergarten and the early grades, students are building crucial skills that will shape their academic journey in subjects like reading and math. As parents and caregivers, we all want to give our children the best possible chance at a happy, healthy, successful future. One way to do that? Get them to school as often as possible! Being in school helps them develop in so many ways. Plus, they're able to connect with friends and adults, collaborate and problem-solve, think critically, be creative, and engage in hands-on learning.
When students miss school, they miss out on important instruction that can be difficult to catch up on later. Consistent attendance lays the groundwork for their success, and we want every child to feel confident and capable in their learning.
We are here to support you and your child in every step of their educational journey. Let’s work together to make this year the best one yet by ensuring that your child attends school regularly.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Eason
Reminders
Arrival Procedures:
At 8:20 am, staff will be on duty both inside and outside of the school to assist students with the arrival process. All students in grades K-2 will enter through the front doors on Newark Avenue and proceed to the gym.
The curbside drop-off area is a “Drop and Go” lane. Please pull all the way up to the end of the drop off line moving. You may not get out of your car in the “Drop and Go” line. This backs up our “Drop and Go” lane and causes severe traffic jams. Additionally, you may not park in the “Drop and Go” lane to watch your child walk from your car to the front doors of the school. If you feel more comfortable waiting and watching your child enter the building, we ask that you please park your car and accompany your child to the front door to avoid holding up the car line as this causes unnecessary traffic around Weston School. See chart below.
If your child is participating in the breakfast program, they may enter the building at 8:05 am. The children will be escorted to the multi-purpose room/cafeteria for breakfast.
Doors will open at 8:20 am for all other students who are not participating in the breakfast program.
Students are not permitted into the building prior to 8:20 because there is no supervision provided for students other than those attending the breakfast program.
Students must arrive at school by 8:30 am or they are considered tardy and it will be reflected on their attendance. Tardy students must be accompanied into school and signed in by a parent or guardian.
Dismissal Procedures:
Dismissal for our preschool students is at 2:45 on the Onka Street side of the building.
Early dismissal is for emergencies only. Please know that dismissal prior to 2:55 is discouraged as it interferes with your child's instruction and as a result they miss valuable information as it relates to teaching and learning. We understand that emergencies occur, however we ask that if it is not an emergency you wait until dismissal to pick your child up at 2:55.
Students in grades K through 2 dismiss at 2:55-3:05 pm. Kindergarten students will dismiss through the front door, classroom door, or parking lot door depending on the child's teacher.
Students in grades 1 and 2 will dismiss on the playground blacktop. No student will be dismissed from the top landing of the steps.
All parents/guardians are asked to line up behind a cone designated with the teacher's name on the blacktop. Please be aware of your child’s homeroom teacher's name. The teacher will dismiss your child to you. Please do not get on the teachers line to retrieve your child. Photo ID will be required until the teachers are familiar with the parent/guardian who is picking up. It is imperative that each and every student be picked up safely with an adult.
During the first days of school, parent/guardian patience is expected and appreciated.
Cars are not permitted to enter or park in the staff parking lot unless your car displays a handicapped placard. Please be aware that cars parked illegally in the school parking lot at the time of arrival or dismissal will be asked to move.Support staff will be on hand throughout the arrival and dismissal to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students.
If an emergency occurs and you are unable to pick up your child at dismissal time, please call the main office at 908-231-8548 so that we are aware of the situation. However, we do encourage all parents to have a backup plan for the pick up of their child in case an unforeseen situation does arise. With this in mind, please be sure to add the proper names and numbers for emergencies in Genesis.
Children will not be released to anyone whose name does not appear on the parent-approved list in Genesis unless a written note or email is provided to the office in the morning.
For parents/guardians who have multiple children in the school and would like to pick them up together, arrangements can be made with the building administration at deason@manvillesd.org. Please provide the names of your children, grade and teacher. I will work to have the procedure in place no later than Monday, September 9, 2024. Until then, the students will need to be picked up from their separate locations.
