Kieran Briggs (ext. 2751)
are here to help you learn how to use technology in the classroom and they operate across all College sites, visiting you on a one-to-one or group basis.
Many staff need additional support when asked to embed technology in class and we are here to help with exactly that.
Our Moodle and Google Apps for Education VLEs have many exciting features and the ability for students to access learning online at any time. Whether you want students to hand work in electronically, or you want to embrace mobile technology in your classes, we are here to help you. Our expertise extends beyond Moodle and Google Apps for education, with Whiteboard Training, Smartphone Applications, tablet use and help you to develop ideas of how to improve your current eLearning content.
With the New Online College Team, you won't just see us once, we can help you every step of the way, offering training as and when you feel you need it.
If you would like to arrange any eLearning training you can drop Nicola Wilcox, Simon Sharratt or Dave Appleyard an email, fill in a request form here https://staff.sheffcol.ac.uk/onlinecollege/training/ or call us on ex.2752 and we can get some dates in the diary.
Celebrating Staff Success- Len Unwin- Hospitality
Over the years, Len has engaged highly in his own development, predominantly returning to industry for professional updating.
The main benefits have been:
- Development of skills and current practice
- Development of contacts for him, the college and especially students.
- Promotion of the college
- Student experience and employment opportunities
Len says, "Over the years I have been to a wide variety of establishments, usually during my own time, which allows me a greater choice over venue and time spent. I have been on various chocolate courses but mainly working in hotels such as The Berkeley in Knightsbridge and restaurants both local and national, and more recently a week long sugar course with Colin Martin in Cumbria.
Possibly the most productive development has been at The Fat Duck restaurant in Bray which is owned by Heston Blumenthal . This was possibly the most inspirational and rewarding placement, from this not only did I learn the latest in food and technology but I made a contact, which has continued to flourish: I've had students go down there on placement and the Head Chef, Jonny Lake, came into The Sheffield College to demonstrate to our 3rd year students.
Through the contacts made, a number of students have secured work such as, Walda, who has just gone to work for Neil Snowball, Head chef of Gordon Ramsay's Petrus in Knightsbridge in: a 1* Michelin restaurant.
I continue to carry out these types of activities for both the benefit of my own development but also to provide opportunities in a very tough competitive industry for my students."
You can apply to attend your own development by clicking here.

Got a Meeting? Take a Walk...
