IMPORTANT COLLEGE-BOUND SENIOR TASKS
Here are some important tasks to keep you on track:
- College recruiters frequently come to PLHS. Take advantage of these opportunities to learn more and make connections by signing up in MaiaLearning.
- September and October are great months for on-campus visits. Many colleges have virtual visits as well. You can typically sign up for a visit through the college's website.
- Ask a teacher for a recommendation. Please limit your recommendation requests to two, as this is all you usually need. Complete the "Brag Sheet" and upload a copy to your MaiaLearning account. CLICK HERE for directions.
- Create a resume. Many scholarship applications require a resume as part of their application process. CLICK HERE for helpful tips.
DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN EARN COLLEGE CREDITS AT UNO WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL?
The UNO Dual Enrollment Application is now available for Papillion La Vista High School Students. If you are currently enrolled in a UNO Dual Enrollment course and want to receive UNO course credit, you will need to submit an application for dual enrollment. To apply, you can visit HERE. DUAL ENROLLMENT DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 27TH.

IT IS NOT TOO EARLY TO KNOW YOUR FAFSA FACTS
Worried about the cost of college stopping you from getting a degree? There are ways to cover the cost, including financial aid. You can complete the FAFSA to get the process started.
What is the FAFSA? It is the Free Application for Federals Student Aid. By completing the FAFSA you will be applying for federal, state, and college-based financial aid. The colleges you list on the FAFSA will use the information you provide to award you a financial aid package. To get the BEST financial aid packages from your school, it is important to apply early! The FAFSA will open December 1st watch for details in future senior bulletins.
STEP 1 CREATE A FAFSA ID
To begin the process to complete the FAFSA, you will need to create a Federal Student Aid account (FSA ID). You can do this at studentaid.gov. Click Create Account in the right corner to get started. Your parent will also need to create their OWN account. Make sure they complete it as themselves, not as you! This could take three to five business days to receive once completed. STUDENTS DO NOT USE YOUR SCHOOL EMAIL, USE YOUR PERSONAL EMAIL! This is something you can do now.

EducationQuest is a FREE service for high school seniors. They offer many services such as how to plan for college, how to apply for college, how to pay for college, FAFSA help, how to create an activities resume and more. PLHS CLASS OF 2025 COLLEGE APPLICATION COMPLETION AID
Below is a document that can be used to help fill out standard college applications. There are common mistakes students make when completing an application and this can delay or hinder the application process. The application will be unique to you, so make sure all information is as accurate as possible.
SERVICE ACADEMY DAY
Are you considering a service academy? The Nebraska congressional delegation (Senator Ricketts, Senator Fischer, Congressman Bacon, Congressman Flood, and Congressman Smith) are hosting an additional Service Academy Day event on September 15th from 1:00 pm -3:00 pm at Lincoln Northwest High School, 4901 West Holdrege St. Lincoln, NE. These events are for all high school students (Freshman through Seniors) that are interested in attending one of the U.S. Service Academies. The presentation details the congressional nomination process and includes information about the service academy application process. If you missed these events, you may review the presentation here. BUFFETT/GOODRICH SCHOLARSHIPS
Seniors, the PLHS Counseling Center will offer assistance for students interested in applying for the Buffett and Goodrich Scholarships. Each year, PLHS assists close to 100 students applying for these amazing scholarships. If you would like to be part of the team of students who plan to apply for these scholarships, email Mrs. Bradley and let her know you would like to be part of this team.
To be part of this team you must:
- Plan to attend a Nebraska public college:
- NE Community Colleges - CCC, LPTC, MCC, MPCC, NECC, NICC, SCC, or WNCC;
- NE State College System - Chadron State, Peru State, Wayne State; or
- University of NE System - NCTA, UNK, UNL, UNMC, or UNO
- Be in need of financial assistance in order to attend college
- Note: You do not need to be Pell Grant eligible to qualify
- You must have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) below $10,000
- You must have an GPA of at least a 2.0
All eligible applications are reviewed and scored. Selection is based on:
- Financial need
- Academic merit
- Essays
- Recommendations

Papillion La Vista High school loves to celebrate our seniors achievements! If you are awarded a scholarship, please share your good news with our scholarship office.
- Snap a picture of your award letter and email it to Mrs. Bradley.
- Bring a copy of your award letter to Mrs. Bradley in the scholarship office.
- Screenshot your award and email it to Mrs. Bradley
We do not care if you are awarded one scholarship or ten, we would like to know about all of them! If you have questions, see Mrs. Bradley in the scholarship office. The scholarship office appreciates your help turning in these awards as you receive them.
PLCS ACT PREP CLASSES
Papillion La Vista Community Schools is offering an ACT Prep Course! Tailored to meet the individual needs of each student, students can choose to attend a session every week or just a few. Research shows that preparation is a key to test taking. Students taking a test preparation course are better prepared for the ACT than those who have done no preparation. This new PLCS ACT Prep Course is taught by PLCS teachers with expertise in each of the subject areas. CLICK HERE to register and for more information.

PLEASE DO NOT ask your teachers for a copy of your recommendation. Recommendations written by PLHS teachers are confidential and will NOT be handed to students or parents.

There are fee waiver opportunities, scholarships available, and more, to help support families with financial needs. Unless you complete the "Free & Reduced Lunch Application" you will be unable to take advantage of these opportunities.
