Congratulations to our very own Mrs. Melanie Dimler who was selected as a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching!

"The Presidential Award means the world to me and confirms that I'm living my true calling and vocation. I did not start my career in education, but I knew deep down that being a STEM teacher would be the perfect career for me - and it is! I love teaching physics because of the multitude of opportunities to engage students through hands-on lab activities. Being recognized for all the time, passion, and energy I put into this truly valuable work is just icing on an already delicious cake."

Students used the Question Formulation Technique to generate questions about electricity. This encouraged deeper engagement and ownership by enabling students to have input regarding the direction of learning. Students also spent time creating series and parallel circuits using a Phet simulator and real wires, batteries, and bulbs.

The virtual field trip, Safe-T-Opolis, presented by Alabama Power provided valuable safety and career information.
