FOUNDATIONS PROGRAM

This year's focus is on Ancient World History. We will be memorizing these facts in class, while you and your students travel as far as your interest lies in each subject at home.

We are excited to learn about ancient civilizations, plants, animals, geology, & weather this year. It's going to be a fun one!

Classical conversations Cycle 1 subjects span a larger area geographically and historically than Cycle 3 (American History).

How will our Foundations memory work help our students in their future studies?

CC believes a great education starts with a firm foundation:

Children along with one of their parents meet together with a parent-tutor to learn the first skill of learning: how to memorize anything in a fun and engaging atmosphere. Students in this program lay a firm foundation in history, science, languages, arithmetic, and geography.

The essentials of the English Language program is a complete language arts program that takes students beyond the worksheet. Essentials teaches students how to analyze sentence construction thoughtfully. The result is strong language construction and usage skills, both written and oral. Essentials not only teaches excellent grammar skills, but it lays the foundation for acquiring foreign language.

There are three main portions to the Essentials program:

1. English Grammar and Structure through the Essentials of the english Language Guide
2. Writing Structure and Style through Institute for Excellence in Writing
3. Math Practice through games and competition.

FACES OF HISTORY

A Faces of History paper consists of up to a 5-paragraph research paper on a famous person. Characters are typically from the current cycle, but the parent-teacher makes the final decision on which character the student chooses. The students participate in a presentation dressed as the character they have researched. Faces of History can be a wonderfully rewarding capstone to an Essentials year.

Classical Conversations is a proven Christian education program created by parents for parents. We do this through a Christ-centered and family-friendly approach to homeschooling that makes everything biblical and simple. Our program covers K-4 to College Credit. We believe that you are the best educator for your student and we make it simple by providing you with a consistent roadmap that you can follow at your own pace. We have been partnering and equipping families since 1997 through our Classical Christian Communities.

Our CC community provides support for you on Community Days, as well as an optional enrichment day. Community, belonging and ministry is what you will find with the Oceanside CC community. In addition, CC offers Apple and Android apps as a convenient way of reviewing the Foundations memory work. We also offer a subscription service called CC Connected where you can connect with other Foundations and Essentials families around the world, download files from other families, and practice memory work with Video Tutorials. CC has partnered with RightNow Media to offer this huge video library to CC Connected subscribers. Our Scribblers tier offers quality activities for your littlest learners so they can work independently while you help an older child. Join CC Connected today.

Attending to the Essentials: The Art of Grammar will stimulate you to dig down to the foundations of your ideas about homeschooling! Our daily goal is to inspire and equip parents eager to become confident “everyday educators.” The encouragement of community, the insights of other lead learners, and the hands-on practice we'll enjoy will build assurance and skills—for learning and for teaching!

This summer, we will work on “attending to the essentials” of English grammar! As we dig into these basics, we’ll uncover the beauty in the foundations of our language, and we will discover the treasures waiting to be explored with our families. Together we’ll mine those riches waiting to be excavated, understood, and displayed as we become better readers and writers because we know our language from the roots.
