West Point El. Parent Update
Week of March 23, 2025
Dear West Point Families,
We would like to congratulate our Lion King, Jr. staff on an outstanding performance last weekend. They were incredible! Thank you to Mrs. Bott, Mrs. Neese, and Mrs. Bateman and family, as well as our parent volunteers, for making this happen.
We would also like to congratulate our 6th grade team who took first place at the District Book Battles last Friday. Way to go, Book Chickens! Our 5th grade team, the Bookie Monsters, won the prize for the most creative name.
This week our students will get an opportunity to practice their Wildcat handshakes with visitors who will be coming to their classrooms. They will each earn a brag tag for participating in this event. We hope they will continue to develop confidence in welcoming and greeting others.
Educational concern forms close this Friday, March 28. These forms are optional but are available to parents if you would like us to consider special factors when making class placements for the 2025-2026 school year. Please use the following link to access the form.

Here are three important things to know for the coming week.
- Spring Break is Monday, March 31 - Friday, April 4. There will be no school that week. This could be a good time for students to work on their Excellence Projects and get their displays ready!
- Our last Community Council meeting of the year will be this Wednesday, March 26 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the conference room. (rescheduled from last week)
- The deadline for ordering yearbooks is almost here! Yearbooks can be ordered on myDSD for $18 through March 31. After that date, it will be first come first served for $25 if we have any extras.
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Christie Bouy
Principal and Administrative Intern, West Point Elementary

Magical Manners
This week's manner is a repeat from earlier in the year, "Introduce Yourself." As we prepare for our Wildcat Handshake Event this week, it is a good time to review how to introduce ourselves and why it is a good manner.

March's LETTERING Focus - W for Wildcat Hanshake
This month we are focusing on W - West Point Wildcat Handshake. Greeting someone warmly with a handshake shows respect to others, helps others feel welcome, and portrays confidence. Ask your students to show you their Wildcat Handshake! They will get an opportunity at the end of the month to practice their Wildcat handshake with different members of the school and community.
March Brag Tags
This is our final week for students to earn their March attendance and reading brag tags. Please continue to encourage your students to earn their brag tags! Students can earn an attendance brag tag if they have 0-1 absences for the month. They earn their reading brag tag by reading at home at least 18 days during the month.

Reading is a piece of cake!
The Clinton location of Nothing Bundt Cakes is providing another opportunity for parents to reward students for reading. This promotion is not connected to the school, but your child can take advantage of the opportunity to fill out a Books & Bundts reading tracker each month. When they have read for 400 minutes for the month, they can turn in the tracker for a free bundlet.

Attendance Adds Up
Please be aware of your students' attendance and help them to be at school every day. We understand that students who are sick need to be home. (Please see the above DSD Health Protocol.) However, missing a day of school here and there adds up quickly and puts students behind. Thank you for your support!
