Announcing Long Island's First Workforce Development Summit
Nassau BOCES and the Cradle of Aviation Museum are excited to host Long Island’s first Workforce Development Summit on October 1, 2024, at the museum in Garden City. Workforce development is a critical component to building a strong, sustainable labor supply that can meet the needs of businesses and industries in this region. Education's role in the future of Long Island's workforce is vital in ensuring that the next generation is prepared to fill the jobs that our region so desperately needs to fill in order to thrive. This event will "educate the educators" on the multiple career opportunities available on Long Island within the trades and manufacturing industries— well-paying careers that allow our students to work and live on Long Island. Attendees explored ways of sparking student inquiry through CELF's civic science framework. Educators learned about upcoming opportunities to engage students in hands-on learning and also about Long Island's emerging sustainability initiatives. Staff from OEE and CELF provided opportunities for educators to engage in place-based learning through the lens of sustainability.
