BRUIN BRIEFING
April/May 2025
Dear FSH Family Members and Friends
Another school year is rapidly coming to a close and we are making plans for our many end of school year activities and events. We still have many activities planned as we finish up the school year.
Coming up there are many opportunities to get out to support our Bruins and see and hear the great talent we have on the fields, tracks, courts, courses and in our theater, commons, and classrooms. Here are a few of the highlights:
May 21st: Senior Scholarship Awards Ceremony
May 28th: Academic Awards in the Main Gym
May 28th: Bruin Bash
June 4th: Senior PRANK (People Really Appreciate Nice Kids) Day and Senior Picnic
June 5th: Graduation Practice at the Fargodome at 2:45
June 8th: Graduation at the Fargodome at 3:00
We also have band, choir, and orchestra groups performing final concerts of the school year and spring sports teams completing their seasons as well. To see our full school calendar with the most up to date information about our events and activities, including changes, postponements, and cancellations, please check here: South School Calendar. You can also find information on events on “X” (formerly Twitter) at @fshactivities.
With the end of the school year rapidly approaching, it is also time to make plans for the summer and get registered for the Fargo Public Schools Summer Sports Camps. Fargo South will be offering camps for girls and boys basketball, volleyball, football, wrestling, and strength and conditioning. Our coaches run these programs in hopes of helping the students improve their individual and team skills as well as get prepared for the upcoming seasons. All the camps include programs for seventh and eighth graders with some programs offering opportunities for younger students, also. Fee waivers are available for those in need of assistance with the registration fees. No one will be turned away. Registering as soon as possible will help us plan for the number of coaches needed to give the students the best experience we can. You can find more information, including registration information, here.
We are planning to host a physical blitz once again here at South High in cooperation with Sanford. It will be July 23rd. Forms for the event can be picked up in the main office and need to be returned by July 14th to ensure a spot on July 23rd. All athletes will need a physical dated after April 15th, 2025 to participate in sports during the 2025-2026 school year.
You will find more information on the happenings at South High School in this edition of the Bruin Briefing.
Thanks for a great year!
Sincerely,
Mike Beaton
Assistant Principal/Activities Coordinator

Near perfect attendance is important because students are more likely to succeed in academics when school is attended consistently. If a student is recorded as being truant (unexcused absence) or is late to class, a detention will be assigned for each period of truancy and every third tardy.
An entry will be made in PowerSchool that will identify the date and period that the detention was earned. To access detention information, login to your PowerSchool account. There you will see the current detentions and how many have carried over from previous years.
At South High School, detention can be served Monday – Friday from 7:50am - 8:25am or Saturday mornings from 9:00—Noon. Failure to complete assigned detentions, will limit a student’s ability to participate in extracurricular activities (athletic and nonathletic) and participate in graduation ceremonies.

MEASLES
With the rising numbers of Measles cases in the United States, Fargo Cass Public Health would like to remind students, parents and staff of some important information regarding Measles.
Measles can be very serious, causing serious health complications, including hospitalization, brain damage, and even death. The more common symptoms of Measles include:
- High fever (may spike to more than 104F)
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Red, watery eyes
- Rash (usually 3-5 days after symptoms begin)
- Measles is very contagious
- Measles spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
- It is so contagious that if 1 person has it, up to 90% of the people around will also become infected if they are not protected.
- A person can get Measles just by being in a room where an infected person has been, even up to 2 hours after the infected person has left.
- An infected person can spread Measles to others before knowing if he/she has the disease, up to 4 days before developing the rash.
The MMR (Measles-Mumps-Rubella) Vaccine is a safe and effective way to protect yourself and your child against Measles. This is a 2 dose series given at age 1 and again at age 4. If there is a delay in receiving the vaccine, the 2 doses are given 4 weeks apart. You can access you and your children’s North Dakota immunization record securely through the following website: Docket®. For more information please see the NDHHS website: https://hhs.nd.gov/IRR. You can also call your primary care provider or FCPH to see if you are up to date or to schedule to receive the vaccine.
Inadequately immunized contacts require vaccination within 72 hours of exposure or should be excluded from school and all activities until NDHHS determines they can safely return. Vaccinated contacts may attend school unless they have symptoms or are advised by a physician to remain at home.

ATTENDANCE
ATTENDANCE OFFICE (701) 446-2023
Good attendance, whether at school or on the job, is very important. If a student must be absent from school, please call Deb Maus @ (701) 446-2023.
Class attendance will be reported daily by period. It is the intent of the attendance secretary to contact parents at home or work the same day by phone to directly report any class(es) that have been reported as absent.
Parents would you remind your students that are leaving school early for ANY reason that they need to pick up their exit pass from the Attendance Secretary. We are not always able to deliver passes in a timely manner. If students are leaving early for an appointment or other reason, they need to pick up their pass prior to their appointment. Also – If your student is going to an appointment dentist, doctor, etc. they need to bring an appointment slip back from the doctor/dentist to attendance when they return to school to have the absence excused for an activity.
