Enrichment Programs
Sub Zero Ice Cream
Our second graders received a unique, STEM focused presentation designed to educate students using the unique properties of liquid nitrogen that finished with making fresh and delicious ice cream.
Sound and Light
Our first graders were introduced to the concept of sound as vibration that travels in waves through gas, liquids, and solids. Students played with pitch and resonance as they create and engage with unique sound makers made from common household materials. They also discovered properties of light and color using flashlights, prisms, and colored acetates. Spinning tops and chromatography experiments engage students in thoughtful dialogue about how colors can be mixed and enhanced.
Force and Magnetism
Our third graders observed how magnets can be used as a force to make toys move in fun, unique ways. They had opportunities to observe the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces as they apply what they learn while engineering their own original magnetically powered moving toy
Report Cards
Reminder, our grades 1-4 first term report cards will be available in the X2 Aspen Family Portal on December 13. You will receive an email when they can be accessed. In preparation for this date, please make sure you are able to log into you Family Portal. Tier 2 PBIS Opportunites
One of our major functions as a school is to support our students' social and emotional development. One way that we achieve this is provide tier 2 opportunities in our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) system. These opportunities give students extra practice and support in developing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills. We are in the process of finalizing these opportunities for selected students.
iReady
One of our curriculum components is the iReady program which lets us both assess and provide instruction for students. While we don't utilize iReady specifically for homework, students do have access to the personalized instruction at home by going through the Clever Portal on our Chelmsford Public Schools website. Below is a informational sheet for families about the iReady program.
Louie's Loot
Today our Mascot Louie helped kicked off our home literacy program in kindergarten "Louie's Loot" by stopping by to visit.

Counselor's Corner
Dear Byam families,
Children of all ages can have big feelings and difficulty managing their emotions. For some kids this can show up as tantrums and outbursts. We call this “emotional dysregulation”. There are lots of calming techniques parents and caregivers can model and teach kids to help them better regulate their emotions. Below I am sharing a link to an article for parents and caregivers from the Child Mind Institute called, “How to Help Children Calm Down,
Techniques for helping kids regulate their emotions and avoid explosive behavior”, by Caroline Miller. I hope this article may offer some insights and ideas for supporting your children at home.

Byam Cares Program
Another Way to Support Byam Families in need
Tis the season! This year we are hoping to send some holiday cheer to our Byam families in need. In addition to our Byam Cares program, this year our School Counselor, Ms. O'Neil created a wish list on amazon to provide an option to buy toys, games, books, and other gifts our students in need would love to receive. All of the purchases will be mailed to Byam and then distributed to our families. If you are interested in buying a gift, please take a look at the link below. Any and all support is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your generosity and kindness for both our Byam Cares and our Byam Amazon projects during the holiday season!
