CELC News & Updates
Hello CELC Families,
I hope you all are enjoying the Labor Day weekend with friends and family. As a reminder, all AUSD schools and offices are closed on Monday, September 2nd.
Thank you to everyone who attended Back to School Night. Our teachers enjoyed connecting with you. Your partnership in your child's education is invaluable! If you were unable to attend, please reach out to your student's teacher if you have any questions.
We are excited to begin our Response to intervention time for kindergarten (K) this Tuesday, September 3rd. Our TK teachers will be working with small groups of K students in the afternoons. In addition, starting this week, instructional assistants (IAs) will be pushing into the K classrooms for 45 minute blocks to support students.
Here are a few updates to help keep you up-to-date:
Picture day is Thursday, September 5th. Don't forget to send your child with their best smile!
As a reminder, the MVLA students and families utilize the parking lots at both CELC and SHES on Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursday. They are a hybrid homeschool program and are only on campus three days a week. MVLAs hours are 8:55 am to 1:25 pm. The MVLA campus is located in the back of SHES across the lower bridge.
For the safety and security of students and staff, gates are locked during school hours.
The side gates in the bus lane are for staff only. Please do not enter or exit there! It is a safety issue. We need to ensure that the gates are closed and secured..
- AUSD will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students this school year. See menus below.
- Breakfast is available at the cafeteria at 8:35 a.m. daily.
Please report any absences to your child's teacher and the office. Please let the office know the reason your child is out and what symptoms they have. Email Mary Barkely, our amazing Clerk or call the office at 619-659-8250.
Please send your student to school each day with a backpack, refillable water bottle, a healthy snack, and a lunch (unless they are getting a cafeteria lunch).
Please include a change of clothes in a ziplock bag in their backpack. Potty accidents tend to happen early in the year. We have clothes on hand but having their own tends to make them feel more comfortable.
See you all soon!
Sincerely,
Tamara Ripke, Proud Principal

Attendance Facts
Building a habit of good attendance will help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally at school. Please limit absences that are not related to illness. If you know ahead of time that your child will be out for 3 or more days, please request an independent study contract to help keep them engaged in learning. Please take a moment to read the flyer below to learn more facts about attendance.
AUSD LCAP Goals
The Governor's budget for education mandated that every school district in California needs to update its Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a component of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). The LCAP is intended to be a three-year plan to improve student achievement by setting annual goals for the district in eight priority areas. Each of the priorities has established data requirements to track district progress improving student achievement. The LCAP requires Districts to gather input from students, teachers, parents, and community members to determine the goals, actions, and budget priorities for the District. Our District staff worked together with all of our stakeholder groups to gather input and craft the draft of our Local Control Accountability Plan. Here are AUSD's 2024-25 LCAP Goals:
Goal #1: All AUSD Students will demonstrate growth in mastering both English Language Arts and mathematics standards and all English Language Learners will demonstrate growth in developing English language proficiency.
Goal #2: AUSD will cultivate a positive school climate where students and staff feel connected, engaged, safe, and supported.
Goal #3: AUSD will increase family and parent engagement within our schools with a focus on actively engaging families from underrepresented groups, ensuring equitable participation.
District, School, and Grade Level Goals
In AUSD's ongoing commitment to enhancing student achievement, they are setting goals for each school, classroom and the district this year. AUSD's targets include a 10% increase in ELA, Math, and Science scores, alongside a 10% reduction in chronic absenteeism, aiming for a 96% attendance rate. Our staff is dedicated and will work as a team to reach these goals. As partners in your child's hybrid homeschool program, let’s unite our efforts to support your student and turn these objectives into achievements. Together, we can make a significant impact and drive real progress.
Volunteers
School Cafe Application
Please take the time to fill out a free/reduced lunch application for your student. It is imperative that all families complete the lunch forms, even if the family will not qualify for or take advantage of the school lunch program. These forms ensure that CELC (and all other AUSD schools) receive proper Federal funding for all sorts of important school functions such as academic and social emotional support, teacher training, and instructional equipment. This form can be accessed in advance at this link schoolcafe.com. For any family registering a new account, our district is listed as Alpine USD. You need your student’s ID number. It is available in ParentVUE. We will also have them available for you at your scheduled student assessment. Our hope is to have as many families as possible complete this form by the end of the first week. Thank you so much for your support!

Take 5
Have you ever asked your child how their day was or what they did? Do you often get a one word response like "nothing" or "fine". Try using our Take 5 Questions to help get more thought provoking answers. It is a great opportunity to connect with your child, learn more about their experiences at school, and help them build their language skills.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Book List
Our amazing School Social Worker, Camryn McInerney , created a list of recommended read aloud books. This is another great way to connect with your Cub. Choose one of your favorite books or one on her list and make reading with your child a regular habit.
